Posted - 26/08/2010 : 18:16:40 Hi all, I think I have a problem,my 5 year old corn has now regurgitated twice within about 4 weeks,he looks very thin and inactive.Following advice i got some Avipro Plus which i put as per instructions in to the water.More worringly the vet who is a reptile expert tells me that it could be some form of bacteria he did tell me the Latin name but I cant remember it.And that it is invariably fatal. Up till now he would feed even though it would come back but now wont even do that.Viv temp is 82-86 warm end and 72-74 cold end , two hides uv etc.I would be gratefull for any advice. Best wishes Charlie |

Posted - 09/10/2010 : 09:49:38 Hi Guys sorry for the long delay in replying,I upgraded to windows 7 and nothing worked for ages.In reply to Mike , Iam with Sears Vets near Crawley, and their Senior Partner specialises in exotic reptiles. They have a good name, and their advice was always good.Maybe part of the disaster was that I did not spot the problem quick enough, who knows. It is difficult to not agree with a vet. Best wishes and many thanks for all your help. Charlie

Posted - 28/08/2010 : 10:37:35 Which Vet is it you use? its a hard choice to make, but tests should been done first, animals have come back from similar conditions, sometimes even really bad burns. We have a gecko that had worms, we didnt know at the time, she lost loads of weight, and was pretty much near on dying, she weighed something like 20g as an adult, she never was big, and fully recovered now, she only weighs about 40g. It is possible though. |

Posted - 28/08/2010 : 08:17:34 Hi guys in reply to Mikes text the vet said they were quite happy to start treatment afterall its me thats paying, but in their opinion the chance of recovery was nil,and it would have caused more stress to the animal.Like most people you trust their judgement,I trust my GP,its very hard to argue with my sort of knowledge. But they are doing a autopsy so we might find out what happened. Best wishes Charlie |

Posted - 27/08/2010 : 23:35:09 Sorry to hear that, however, they should have done tests first, how do they know it wasn't crypto? How do they know it wasn't recoverable? They cannot, simply cannot make a judgement without backing it up, that's why vet labs exist. Don't get me wrong, I am sorry that its got so bad. They need to do a pm, you need to know what was wrong with it, for the sake of your other animals, putting an animal down because it looks bad is not good enough. |

Posted - 27/08/2010 : 22:05:14 Hi all Iam afraid that the vet had to put him to sleep. The consesus was he was too weak to rally round with treatment, and two reptile vets agreed the chance of success was virtually nil. They think an organ failure was probably the cause,or some form of cancer. As he was never very big it took a while for me to spot the problem, and he only ate roughhly once every 10m days or so.He was certainly too weak to drink in the end.Whatever it was it was not Cripto.Makes me wonder if I went wrong somewhere, the viv was clean at all times etc.Sorry to be a bearer of bad news but thanks for all your help and advice. Best wishes to you all .Charlie |

Posted - 27/08/2010 : 16:37:27 Ccf is mixed with water, the vat can't 'give' it to him, he has to drink it. I was gonna do cloacal swabs myself, but if he is gonna do it, there is no point doing it twice. 5 years old and 2ft sounds very bad, unless of course he's never been big and eats fine, I had a 2.5 year old that was only 14 inches, some of my babies are bigger than he was!! Weight is the key, you need to reularly weigh him and see how much weight is lost or gained over a period of time. I suggest weighing once a day to start with. |

Posted - 27/08/2010 : 10:27:09 Hi all this is ringing alarm bells to me as well because i dont see how he got anything except from a frozen mouse which had been defrosted. I have turned the UV off and we are going to the vet today. I tried a fluffy yesterday and he now wont even eat, i think he is drinking.the vet will give him some ccf to get some poo for a sample. best wishes Charlie
