Posted - 24/07/2013 : 21:13:07 My ex has left and left me with his corn snake. I have never looked after a snake before, he used to do it, and to be honest I'm terrified! I want to find a home for her where she will be well looked after, as I can't do this myself. I don't know anybody else who will clean her out or anything and I'm too scared to do it, I'm concerned her health will start to suffer. She has a 3 foot tank, rocks, logs, heat mat. My ex paid about £300 a few year ago for it all. I'm open to offers, must be able to collect from the South Tyneside area. |

Posted - 29/07/2013 : 21:07:26 I wouldn't be able to get her out of the viv to get her in a suitable container to send her, that's why I am re housing her coz im too scared to hold her, can barely put my hands in to feed and water her when she is in her hide. |

Posted - 28/07/2013 : 21:33:24 Thanks for the nice comments. Coxymk2, I might just take you up on the offer if I can't get it sorted. Lisa, I am just south of Newcastle. She (as far as I'm aware she's a female!) is a beautiful orange with red eyes. she's about 3 year old and is around 4 feet long(ish). I'll try to upload a photo |

Ha!
I wish my Kitty would do that.. I usually have to dig him up for some play time...
Good luck in your search, and really.. stop being so hard on yourself.. There are a ton of folks out there who put their own entertainment and convenience before the welfare of their pets... Even though you didn't ask for the responsibility you are putting the welfare of the critter first.
That is very respectable. |

Posted - 25/07/2013 : 21:53:15 Don't worry, you don't sound pathetic, you're doing well, considering you are not a snakey person - and you obviously care about her. I wish I could help - but I'm too far, an possibly about to take on a rehome as well...
Just a thought - when was she last fed? She might be hungry... If she tries to get out, you could try distracting her - it usually works, they're pretty single mined and then you can do what you need to ( like change water ) with the other hand, from the other side...
Re advertising her - it might help, if you have a photo, it makes people more interested. Also, do you know, roughly, how old is she, and whether it really is a "she " , and what morph?
Hope she finds a new home soon, but, in the meantime, if you need any advice, we're here to help :-)

Have you never handled her? Corn snakes are very placid generally and often the 'recommended' starter snake.
Their care is trivial, Feed once a week to 2x a month, get rid of any poop when you see it and insure there is clean water available.
Clean everything every few weeks (4-16 depending on how messy she is)...
And that's it..
