Het = Heterozygous and basically means different.
Genes come in pairs so if the pair is different, i.e. 1 Normal Gene and 1 Amel Gene, the snake would be 'het Amel'.
As Amel is a recessive gene to normal, the snake will appear normal.
If the genes are the same they are Homozygous (the same) i.e. 2 x Amel genes and the same will appear as Amel. |

Posted - 30/08/2009 : 14:33:12 not a hybris because a hybrid would be two different snakes like a corn and a king snake. its just makes different morphs of corns. have a read on the link eeji gave you. the link will take you to a specific morph but browse that site it explains it a lot better than i can |

Posted - 30/08/2009 : 13:57:02 Oh I seeeee, that makes sense now lol. So it's basically a dormant gene, unless they were to breed with another snake that held the same gene. Therefore making a hybrid of whichever genes they hold lol. |

Posted - 29/08/2009 : 20:47:45 Can I be a n00b and ask what het stands for? :$ And what difference it makes to a snakes morph?
Oh Eeji you're a genius =P Thanks for clearing that up for me =)

Posted - 29/08/2009 : 19:09:45 if she was amel + bloodred, then she'd be a 'Fire' - http://iansvivarium.com/morphguide/fire.php
yours doesn't look fire because I can't see any diffusion on the lateral pattern, and theres no 'baldy' pattern on the head that bloodred gives. Bloodred also gives a plain white belly, so this is an easy test ;) |

Posted - 29/08/2009 : 17:29:22 she may be het for bloodred but i dont know if it altes the phenotype of a corn |

Posted - 28/08/2009 : 21:40:47 I would agree and say she is a dark Amel, her red is more dark red rather than the bright red shown in the pictures on Ians viv.
So if she were a mix of Amel and Bloodred would she look different than what she does do you think? I think she wouldn't have such solid Amel qualities if she was a mix, but then I'm no expert lol.

Posted - 28/08/2009 : 21:19:00 Well he didn't say "slight bloodred twist" that was my way of putting it lol.
He thought that maybe it had a small amount of Bloodred in it as well as Amel?
I think she's pretty either way =) And thanks for the response.

Posted - 28/08/2009 : 21:14:53 no idea what he means by a 'slight bloodred twist' but i'd say it isn't......... unless it's het |
