Hello to all you crestie owners out there :-).
I'm trying to understand the difference in colours when cresties are fired, and not fired. Could you please post some pics for me, of your crestie ( same one ) when fired, and when not? Is there any way of knowing, what a crestie will look like, when fired - for example - grey colour always changes to brown, etc, or do you just have to wait to see the crestie fired?

Do I guess right, that they are " fired " when excited?

I'm hoping, that one day, I'll be allowed to buy a crestie ( at the moment though, hubby is very much against any more animals ), and I like the yellows on them, and the yellow/ browns. Does a grey crestie turn yellow when fired? Or does a yellow crestie develop a pattern when fired?

I can understand his point of view I suppose. It does sound like a lot of work to go on holiday.

People say the same about my pets but I'm not a big fan of holidays anyway, I spend the whole holiday missing them! The reason a crested gecko could make going away more difficult than all your current pets is that they need humidity so need to be sprayed at least once a day (I have an automatic mister, so not an issue for me anymore) and their food needs changing every other day (it's just a case of mixing powder with water so anyone could do it). But I wouldn't have thought it would be that difficult and I haven't yet met anyone who is scared of cresties, at least after they've met mine so not the same views as people tend to have for snakes

Thanks SBB and Moppet. My problem is, that it's not that hubby doesn't like them ( he actually reaches for the snakes, whenever I have them out, and wants to hold them ), it's just that he thinks it's my animals that stop us going away.

Whenever we go on holiday, I have to find someone to look after the horses, a friend from bonsai club to look after the bonsai, and now someone to look after the snakes. With just one snake, I used to put her in a reptile shop for holiday. It's harder with 3, and probably impossible with more, or a crestie on top.
My stepdaughter comes in to feed the cat, but she doesn't like the snakes that much. She can change the water, but she can't handle them, so if one moves the probe, she probably wouldn't put it back...

As I'm not English, I like to go home at least once a year to see my friends and family, and hubby wants to go away on holiday...
It's also that he's convinced that our friends won't come to our house, because we have all those snakes.... What's the difference in having one snake or three or five? And crestie?
BTW, our friends DO come over, it's just every time they can't, hubby blames the snakes...

I agree with SBB, Razee, get OH to handle one, he'll be smitten! Mine was! He was completely against any more pets, particularly reptiles, then we went to a pet shop and held one and he was so keen to get one His favourite thing is that they can lick their own eyeballs and the way that they jump then stick to stuff

They're awesome little critters and they do seem to have expressions! Jaffa likes to perch on top of the hammock (yes, they have a reptile hammock...yes, they're spoilt rotten...) and peer down at me with such a superior yet curious expression. So funny.

Also, they make noises! I heard one of my two make an irritated sounding squeaky noise one evening. So cute! ^^

I love this thread! cresties are simply amazing little things, especially when they are still teeny, they have amazing cheeky characters, and if any are like Fudge so comical with expressions, which probably sounds stupid! she LOVES watching the dogs when i read at night, if they are playfighting she will study them even more with dogs making weird noises
Razee, if you have any friends with cresties get your OH to go and get some handling experience, i am sure this would change his mind and make space for at least one

My photos aren't as good as Angriest's either and my two are both still little so they've still got a bit of developing to do but here goes...

Jaffa unfired

Fired!

Echo unfired

Echo fired (mostly anyway)

Wow, that's a difference ! So cute as well, admiring the picture of herself :-) and sticking her tongue out on the second one :-)

I see her yellow turns to orange, but not on her tail.

Sorry, not as good quality as angriest!

Thanks for that, that's interesting, especially the firing up in patches in sunlight/ shade. Nice photos, too - and look at that yellow on Regalus! And I love the "fired" pattern on Acrux and Electra.

I've seen some cresties in a garden centre/ pet shop, they were still quite little, and all just grey, no pattern. Maybe that's because they're still tiny, and they seemed to be asleep, too.

I find greys generally turn dark brown/black and browns generally go orange or red. Usually people put fired pics up or at least describe it so you should know lol

Im not really sure why / when they fire. Regalus & Electra usually remain dull when sleeping and brighten when waking up and hunting. Electra and Kaiju also brighten up where sunlight touches their body, ending up with them being fired / unfired in blotches where the leaves have covered them.

Acrux fired specifically when I spray water and also when he is hunting. I have found unhealthy geckos tend to fire less or not at all... dunno if just me though (was looking after a few poor souls a while back... after a good diet they looked better and brighter, now they apparently fire every night)
