There's a few of these spiders outside my house at the moment so I took a picture of one. It looks like some pictures I've seen of false widows, does anyone know if it actually is one? I'm not worried I would just like to know what kind of spiders they are out of interest.

Thanks!

Yea There's actually quite a few hanging around near the door out the front and back of my house. I'll just leave them alone just in case, not that I would ever want to touch any spider anyway lol (other than a fluffy tarantula )

Sounds like a false widow to me, he does look a lot like one in the photo and that fits in with what they are like, but like I said it can be quite hard to tell. Better make sure you don't threaten him too much, such in case

He's pretty small, maybe just about the side of a 5p including legs, the legs are kind of brown I think.

Hard to tell from a photo. It could be, how big is it and what colour are its legs?

The problem is that false widows look pretty similar to several other species such as Tegenaria saeva, a common house spider and Araneus diadenatus, a garden spider if you're not sure what to look for.

I agree, too much hype about them. Normally false widow spiders are quite peaceful and will not bite unless they feel very threatened. Even then, how bad the bite is depends on whether the person has a reaction to it.

Lol, I am scared of the larger spiders, this ones ok though he's only diddy. Yea I did read an article like that the other day, I have to agree I think it's been hyped up massively. But I'm just interested to see if all these little ones outside my house are actually False Widows.

It's a creepy one not much help really. Although there was a link on the dark side which had some really interesting info on them and how it's all been hyped up. Would share the link, but am on my phone and not that savvy
