After the last epic shed, Vambo managed it all by himself this time and did a not to shoddy job of it. Mainly down to him stacking up the beef and playing at submarines in his litter tray swimming pool for the past number of weeks.

Aaaah! The relief, for both of us.

Ha-ha-ha! Cunning plans are the way to go.
Good luck with it /them.

Yes, I have a cunning plan
Auld Baldy Posted - 10/08/2012 : 13:32:59
Ha-ha! You could always say that you are sourcing it on my behalf ... and then I could do a runner on the deal due to unforeseen circumstances.

Cheers AB, they certainly don't rush themselves do they. Looking for an inland carpet but will take some megga grovelling, not sure if I can pull this one off

Mick, a light comes on at the the first sniff of dinner and the puddy-tat cuteness goes out the window. I feed him in a spare tub and hand feed. I don't like using tongs as I like to give the rat a twirl and have a wee tug-o-war with him. He does sit for quite a while coiled around the rat with jaws well clamped, usually by the scruff of the neck. Eventually he'll work his way around to the head and takes his time swallowing.

I think the extended 'death grip' might be normal behaviour just to make sure it is dead and not playing possum. I have noticed a pink flush appearing along his throat for about 8". I reckon it is extra blood pumping into the area to prepare for expansion. Start to finish takes 20-30 minutes on average. Wee Woody on the other hand can strike, coil, swallow and be done in no time.

I'll try and get a mini-vid of his rising strike, it is impressive.

Certainly done a great job AB, just wondering how long after he snatches and coils for before eating dinner. Mine is a ferocious eater and always makes absolutely sure the rat is dead (even though its come from the freezer) this can be up to 20 minutes, don't know if there all the same or mine is just being careful.

Auld Baldy Posted - 08/08/2012 : 22:46:00
Thanks Donnie. Amazing what 1x small rat per week can do. I'll need to find an approximate healthy weight for what he should be. At the moment I'm just going by build & looks. No way will I let him get over sized.
Donnie Posted - 08/08/2012 : 22:22:03
You have done a great job with him and boy has he beefed up
Auld Baldy Posted - 08/08/2012 : 22:07:19
Thanks guys.

He's an absolute puddy cat, docile and tolerant at all times. The only time he needs a little space .. well quite a lot really .. is at feeding time. He can rise straight up more than 3 feet to strike and take a rat then constricts like there is no tomorrow. Having said that, I can still easily pick him up after feeding to put him back in his viv.

When he's in blue I normally leave him to it and only do a visual look in to see how he's doing.

He's put on more than 300 grams since I got him, now up to 1450 grams at the last weigh in. BTW The shed length was 80".
