first time ive seen any uk snakes. caught this little grass snake up my local woods this morning he/she was about 2-2 1/2ft at a guess an also in shed and yes it did musk me, got some nice pics an let him/her go

We see them when fishing too, swimming across the water (It started a fascination with them as I didnt know they could swim, and ive been reading up loads on them)

I took one off a gang of teenagers last summer, we were out walking and they were all swinging the poor thing about and passing it about...I heard one of them say something about taking it home so walked over,snatched it off them and quick and put it in the water to make a speedy exit ha ha. x

Just a hint for the smell - if you're near water (which is likely if you found a grass snake) there's probably mint around as well. Just rub some leaves between your hands, and it'll be a hell of a lot better already :)

Edit: I always have a small bottle of desinfecting hand gel with me - no water required, and clean and less smelly hands in no-time. Very handy :p

Cool pics i work in surrey in the middle of the ranges there is supposed to be snakes all over the place i look all the time and still havent seen one :-(

was faily easy to catch as dont think he/she saw me coming an was out warming up so a little slow.
stotty i would say take lemon juice with you, their musk stinks an you dont want that smell all day while fishing
