Posted - 28/03/2012 : 23:58:04 Just got Vambo the Carpet Python settling in.
He's another re-homer and a bit underweight which will be sorted in due course. He had not eaten for 6 months due to being unheated but has fed since getting the core temperature back up to normal. Checked out as male & all fine and well with the vet.
Absolutely calm as a kitten and handled fine during the flitting. Even managed to get a wee chin scratching session in. Well chuffed. More photos to follow after he's settled properly. These were just a couple taken when I got him home.
A handful of Vambo.
Just checking the new residence.

Posted - 31/03/2012 : 00:49:58 The shaded pattern on the top jawline give the impression of teeth like a crocodile plus the sensory pits along the bottom jaw add to the fearsome look. Honestly, he is a kitten. He settled almost immediately with me after an initial hiss or two and accepted a chin and head scratch without complaint.
Having said that, he has to be given due respect at feeding time. The feeding response is pretty dramatic and I won't be hand feeding him for now. Those jaws are powerful and a tag from him will be .. er .. interesting. No doubt it will happen at some time but that just goes with the territory and is part of the fun of keeping any animal. |

Posted - 30/03/2012 : 23:29:59 I don't know why, but I find Carpets really intimidating just to look at, let along getting up close and personal with one Vambo looks very scary indeed |

Posted - 30/03/2012 : 22:48:52 One long slow chomp session after deciding that my nose was not going to be too tasty.
It is my mouse and I'll eat it bum first just because I can.
Going, going .....
Gone and ... Burrrp!
I was really happy to see that mouse go down but it was Indiana Jones all over again trying to encourage him back into the viv. |

Posted - 29/03/2012 : 20:48:57 Thanks folks.
There is nothing wrong with his feeding response, there is also nothing wrong with my survival reflexes. That is a big, powerful mouth compared to a Corn especially when seen from close range. Yikes!
