Posted - 15/11/2011 : 18:29:53 I got my boa! I'm so excited!! He's a super hypo nicaraguan (russo lineage) so he'll only grow around five foot. My mom collected him this morning and I took him out of his tub and into the viv this evening (when I got home from school).
Had to have a little hold.. Got a little nervous when he snapped at me so made use of a long plastic stick to lift him out lol. Apart from that he's actually quite docile!
There's a video I was going to post of him but its taking absolutely ages to upload! I'll add it later
And of course, he'll be left for a week to settle in.
Now he needs a name! Any ideas? Maybe some god of something, but not the common ones like apollo, ares, etc. |

Wow what a beauty. You'll find baby Boas are a bit nippy (the dwarf variety even more so) but you just have to be very confident with them, I also find mine very nosey and a bit fearless so when you put your hand in she will come out of her hide to meet you head on, I've found stopping and holding still (moving seems to trigger their nipping) quite a handy trick to get them used to you then go round them to pick up the hide. I thankfully have never been bitten but have been struck at several times (mainly around food), I think its mainly a warning display, if she wanted to bite she would have by now.
You'll also see a level of intelligence that you dont get in dopey cornsnakes, and very telling eyes. Enjoy.
Thanks for the tips! |
