Ok, I'm probably better off posting on the mother site but I thought I would a wide a range of advice as possible. Out of all the careshhets, books and forums I have read about reptiles can't stress enough about the importance of thermostats for our caly little buggers, but not one of them states anything about thermostats for invertibrates (scorpions). Does anyone know if they are necessary?

There are 2 basic setups I am looking at and neither of them include them. The heat mats supplied are 4w mats, so how much heat would this generate?

Got to agree with matty.
Yes they require a higher temperature, but still have limits.

As said, I wouldn't leave on any heater (even for my house) without a thermostat.
Its a good investment, even if only for peace of mind.

I would use a stat for any heater, if not for the animals, then to prevent my house burning down!
