Posted - 08/12/2009 : 20:18:46 last week we got our texas rat snake feeding again after a 2month fast. when we got him he was on a large rat every 2 weeks. he was underweight and still is because he stopped eatin 2 weeks after we got him (previous owner said he'd been a problem feeder since a hatchling and regularly stopped eating for no apparent reason). So just after some advice. how often should we be feeding him the large rats because i thought 2 weeks wasnt often enough (but then rats are more fatty), seein as he is definately underweight. Iv been trawling the net for some kind of rough guide like the one somewhere on here for corns with the snakes weight, rat size and frequency but no luck! thanks xx |

Posted - 09/12/2009 : 11:56:47 if it's the size of a large mouse it's probably a rat hopper or small weaner which will be fatty (baby things are fatty) try feeding one a week or two every 10-14 days
check your set-up and temps if he goes off his food again and DON'T handle him till he gets back into an established feeding routine
ideally get him on the kitchen scales so you have a starting weight for him then you can monitor if he's gained or lost any |
