Posted - 01/11/2009 : 22:25:21 Biggest expense for my Elle was the setup, so I got
Wooden viv 36" x 18" x 18" Heat Mat Mat Stat Digital Thermometer Warm Hide Cool Hide Water dish Food Dish (not necesaary) Mpani Wood (optional) Plastic Bendable Bostern Fern (optional) Bendable Jungle Vine (optional) Spotlight, Holder and Guard (optional)
All in all it cost about £300 but you can set up for far less if you hunt around for prices. My Leo cost £50.
I can pick up feeders, calci dust and vits for the following Clacium Dust £4.49 Nutrobal Vitamin Supplement £7.95 Bug Gel £2.99 Bug Grub £2.99 I bought these in September and I haven'teven got 1/4 way through.
I can pick up bozes of feeders (Mealies and Cricks) for £2.75, again you can pick all these up cheaper if you hunt around, but I'm more of a convenience person than a bargain hunter.
Suffice it to say, after the inital set up you are looking at about £5 - £10 a month depending how much of a varied diet you give them and vet bills obviously. |

Posted - 01/11/2009 : 17:15:44 My adult leos are all litter trained - they only poo on the square of toilet roll in the corner of their viv, I change that every few days and only do a full viv clean every couple of months. The babies however are dirty little monsters and poo everywhere, i keep them on kitchen roll and do a full clean a couple of times a week.
As for the cost of keeping a single leo, erm 1 box of mealworms and 1 box of cricket or locust (about £2.50 each) should last a 2-3 weeks. calcium and Vitimin dusts will set you back £10-£15 at the start but last aaaaaaaaaaages. You'll also need to provide fresh Spagnum moss every now and again (a £5.99 bag last me about 4 months and i have loads of leos and loads of wet boxes) but the biggest expence as with any animal is always gonna be that unexpected vets bill |

Posted - 01/11/2009 : 14:43:44 We change the bedding on our Leo's nearly every day, it just depends on if they've poo'd on it. But we only use kitchen roll as a substrate, with the hides and the food/water bowls they don't need a HUGE amount of maintenance.
But like with any pet, you have to be prepared for the worst, foods/vits aren't always cheap. |
