Hi,
I'm thinking of getting a crested gecko. Never owned a lizard before and have read all the usual stuff about starting up, seems easy and fun. I currently have a 15 month old corn who is great.

I am on a budget and have a 30x20x30 cm fish tank that may be suitable for a young crestie. When would the tank become too small and/or I have also read that these are social creatures and enjoy company, would it be advised to keep alone or would 2 be better. I have looked at the EXO TERRA range and they are quite expensive, I have many large plastic RUBS, would these be suitable.

I would be keeping the tank on top of my snake viv that uses a heat lamp, I am thinking that the heat from the lamp in the viv would warm the gecko tank enough?

Thanks for reading and any advice appreciated.

Thanks for that . I think I'm going to go ahead and get that crestie, see how he does in a rub when he gets bigger, then I can think of getting him a proper set up when he's older , all comments much appreciated. Cheers

Yay, cresties are awesome!

A tank that size would be fine for a young crestie but as it grows up it would be better in a larger tank. I would check the temperature in the area the tub would be as crested geckos do best when they have a temperature gradient in their tank and can choose what temperature to be.

I keep Fudge in a rub, never had a problem, just be careful though if you put that on rfuk, they will crucify you lol they say cant get right humidity etc, but that is rubbish Fudge is 3 and very healthy, and some will say a heat matt is not suitable again i find just fine, my room is cold in winter so she gets an extra heatmat on the side. I cant comment on the lamp though as i dont use one
She is on her own, and does like mine and the dogs company,
Females together do just fine
I think EVERYONE should have a crestie!!
