Posted - 19/02/2014 : 12:45:15 Poor Boots just had a rough shed. She went blue a while ago, then cleared up, but there was no sign of her actually shedding. She had two sphagnum moss hides but was just curled up and miserable in a tube for a few days. OH turfed her out yesterday and found her stone cold and barely putting up a fight (she's the grumpiest sake in the world, so this wasn't normal). We popped her in a warm bath to get her moving and help the shed, and upon closer examination couldn't find her nose holes. She was working the sides of her jaw and occasionally opening her mouth as if gasping, but she appeared to be breathing okay other than that. I doused her in shed aid and left her overnight hoping it would get things going.
We looked in this morning and found no shed, got her out and she still wasn't trying to get away. I very gently rubbed the side of her neck with just my finger and the old skin split surprisingly easily. I was able to pull away her face and eye caps and once her nose was clear she was a lot more alert, tongue was flicking normally and she musked. When I put her back she proceeded to have a perfect one piece shed (apart from where i'd torn it). After she was done there was a very small amount of blood in her nasal passages, and you can see on the shed skin where the skin grew down into the holes. All I can think is that she retained a small amount of skin from her last shed on her face, I can't think of why else it would have covered her nose. She's absolutely fine now. It was strange, when I was peeling her face she seemed to understand in some capacity that I was trying to help her. The shed aid was amazing, it really softened the skin up and allowed to me pull it away with no trouble at all. Definitely going to make sure I keep some handy o.O |

Posted - 19/02/2014 : 22:05:23 I'm sorry you had a torrid shed with Boots but I'm also glad you've got her sorted and she seems a lot happier now. Hope her next shed goes to plan. But that Shed Aid sounds like good stuff! |
