Posted - 24/01/2014 : 12:58:53 Hi guys, i have been looking at rainbow boas for a while now and made the mistake of holding one when in local rep shop today (man they are strong), and now i have really fallen in love with them. I have had a look at the rainbow boa forum and will prob register at some point. Just wondering how owners of them find then. temperament size (been told average 4-5 foot, but seen several a lot bigger?), how easy to look after (know need specific humidity), handling, whether to get adult or hatchling (heard can be bitty) size of in-closure etc.. Any pics would be appreciated to :)
thank you |

Posted - 04/02/2014 : 15:42:46 ok now i am jealous, always wanted a horse.
Thank you for that i will ahve a look into it. I know partner thinking of getting them on the credit card and would e easier to just get the vivs straight away tbh but Rubs may be an easy option for the time being. ill have a chat with him. I think even if dont get this pair will definatly be getting one atleast lol :) |

Posted - 04/02/2014 : 12:53:33 I was going mad, spent most of my time with my horses so as I didn't miss the internet too much. I placed my RUBs ontop of the heat mat, taped the probe of the thermostat to the mat and the temperature probe was inside the RUB above the area the heat mat was located, I also had a combined thermometer/hygrometer probe located in the cool end of the RUB. I chose to use paper as my substrate but know people who place orchid bark or coco fibre in as substrate. I had two moss hides (one at each end) a large water bowl and had artificial ivy literally just dumped in ontop to act as cover. If I had had more room I would of provided extra hides in the form of upturned plastic tubs that you buy mushrooms in and just cut 'doorways' in them. I was only using 12L Rubs before I moved them into vivs I had one long heat mat with three RUBs on it - thus only required the one thermostat for three snakes. Hope this helps |

Posted - 03/02/2014 : 21:20:04 Apologies for late reply - I have been with out the internet since last Thursday RUBs can be obtained from Staples and some people would keep them in them permanently. At the size they are I would think 64Litre size would be ok and because they like humidity you would not need many ventilation holes. |

Posted - 30/01/2014 : 12:33:59 OK then that does sound about right tbh. Hopefully if get them and she is carrying she wouldn't have any health issues. That would be the concern I have. I never thought of Rubs what size would i need for them and where can i get from? how long could they be in a rub for?

Posted - 30/01/2014 : 09:50:35 I would say they were far to young to breed successfully I know my two were born February 2012, so will be 2 years old very soon and I wouldn't even consider breeding until they were 4 at the minimum. I love them so much, Tobago is due to shed soon and wasn't bothered about being tipped out of his hide to be photographed, were as Ruby my female BRB who is not in shed can be unpredictable. She went to tag me when I got her out for photos but was docile when I got her out to feed last night. You could always house temporally in large RUBs on a heat mat until you sorted a stack out - I kept mine in RUBs until I moved them into their vivs |

Posted - 30/01/2014 : 08:29:46 They are beautiful snakes black cat. I would say the 2 carbs I saw were about the same size as yours mayb a bit smaller they have said )40 deposite just waiting to see how long will hold for as would have to get a stack to move stuff about and that would take time. |

Posted - 28/01/2014 : 21:20:12 I would say the hide is a medium one, but could be wrong. Took some photos of my BRBs last night, first up is Indigo who currently weighs approx 600g
These are Ruby who weighs approx 1000g Getting her to stay in shot is almost impossible

Posted - 28/01/2014 : 20:34:28 looking lovelly smart bunny...wow didnt realised changed quite that much. Trying to get a rough idea of size for pic. is that a medium/large hide (one of the cave ones where top lifts off) if so the 2 i saw def bigger wouldnt fit in that. ciuld hold in one hand when all curled up but strecthed out would be longer than arm. would have said roughtly 3-4 cm wide it think. not heard back from them will ring tomorow. |

Posted - 28/01/2014 : 13:54:06 Ooooh how bizarre, you must have recevied a psychic nudge that rainbows were being discussed Blackcat lol! Wow, Prism is really catching your guys up (now she's realised eating is actually fun lol!). She's 400g now!
Rubi, I found a recent pic of her in her hide in Dec 13 - she refused point blank to come out for a photo shoot lol! She also has a larger hide now
Just for comparison, this is how patterned she was at 1 month old! (the above pic she was 18 months)

Posted - 27/01/2014 : 15:26:28 I have no idea on length of any of mine and would be useless at judging weight too. At a guess Ruby must be just over 4 foot and Indigo not far behind, just not as bulky round the girth yet. I will try and get some photos of me with them in my hands to try and give you an idea of size - can't promise when as I am useless at taking photos, at least they are due to be fed tomorrow or wed so you stand a chance. |

Posted - 27/01/2014 : 14:27:23 I will also see if can get a picture of them both see what you guys thing. it honestly wouldnt surprise me if were close to the 1k mark tbh, but i am useless at judging weight lol |

Posted - 27/01/2014 : 14:04:39 Eating is a good sign. Can you get the shop to weigh them? My two are early cb12 and weigh around 400g and 500g, probably a little on the light side, but I am very cautious when moving up feed size and thus they are generally fed food on the small side. My female BRB who is nearly 3, weighs approx 1000g (1Kg), again prob on the light side and my male who is 2 weighs approx 600g. Not sure on breeding weights of CRB's, but do know that BRB females should be around 1.8Kg or above (from memory). The still born neonates from last year are highly likely to be due to her not being mature enough or not having good enough condition, along with stress if the male was still in the same viv as her. Hope this helps a little with what ever decision you make.

Posted - 27/01/2014 : 13:17:11 yeah that's one thing that worries me, if i get her and is pregnant and has issues. I dont know alot about what size should be etc but she didnt seem under nourished and is still eating at the moment. I think will def get one just not sure if will be these two although they are gorgeous and both me and partner loved them lol |

Posted - 27/01/2014 : 12:23:06 Moppet you will get your BRB and it will be worth the wait, they are stunning creatures I would love to get examples of other Rainbow Boas but lack of space does not permit and if I want to breed my CRB's, it looks like they are both female, thus I would need to acquire a male - another viv It is always dangerous having empty vivs, I have an empty 3', but keep it that way just incase. Rubi, I really hope that the female is not gravid again, she is unlikely to have put enough condition back on from last years stilborn litter. Good luck if you do decide to buy them, they are very much an under rated snake |
