Masuka seems to be doing fine but isn't eating near what he should be. Should it take this long? He has 2 locusts every couple of night and that's it.....tonight he's only had one, the other one is in the viv somewhere but I can't see it, and has been for about 20mins now, and I know you're not supposed to leave them in incase they bite Masuka but I can't find the thing

Starting to stress a bit that he's going to get ill through lack of eating or that he'll get bitten or something. He def hasn't eaten the bug he walked past it and hasn't been iut his hide since, the bug wandered off to the front of the viv and can't see that unless I stick my head literally in the cage.

Sorry blabbering just worried!

I'm going to leave in a bit carrot for the locust, and check in a bit, any advice or reassurances that I'm not doing everything completely wrong would be good.....or of course tell me where I'm going wrong haha!

Yeah she trundles about going about a metre an hour all nice and safe while the cleaning gets done, then she scuppers about on the bed then chills for a bit =)

Really?! Haha!! That sounds quite adorable.

I'd like to be able to handle fully at some point, but may be a good idea until that happens haha!

Thanks! Good to know I'm not the only one haha!

He was eating his hopper in that pic lol. Next challenge is proper handling outside the viv - he'll come onto my hand for a little bit, but scurries off when I lift him 90% of the time. He'll need a clean out soon though so will have to be done!

He is super cute, and i am a worrier too!
Freddiesmum Posted - 08/10/2013 : 09:34:59
Thank you, I am a bit of a worrier in general, overthink things! You've all put my mind at ease though!

He's lovely. I know it's hard but try not to worry too much, as has been said it could be down to him having shed.
Freddiesmum Posted - 08/10/2013 : 08:32:53
Wow that's a long time! I found the bug hiding in a corner and offered it to him, which he took.

I think I need to take a chill pill!

That's good to know about the shed too maybe it's just a combination of that and a new home. Got a wee pic of him this morning here he is.

He might not be eating properly as he was 1 due to shed and 2 just shed lol. They can go a while without eating (Kira went September to February last year eating maybe one super a week). He is eating something so don't worry.

Yeah he hasn't lost any tail fat (from what I can see - will measure asap) he just shed quite happily with no issues, is happy to walk around in the evening when people are in view of him.

Hot temps are 30-32, cold around 21-23, he has hot hide, cold hide, moist hide, calcium dish, water dish, mealie dish and a few plants (fake) viv is 3x2x2.

Dishes are quite small so he has enough room to go for a wander.

Thanks for replies, just got myself a bit wound up lastnight! Can't find the bug this morning so hopefully he's eaten it!
scottishbluebird Posted - 07/10/2013 : 22:12:46
I would say that as long as he is eating, he is ok, does he still look healthy
lupi lou Posted - 07/10/2013 : 21:29:15
They can be hit and miss with how much they eat, some times Jeff will only eat 1 locust then decide he isn't interested. What is your warm end temp at?
