So seem to be making improvement with Masuka, even though it's only been a week. He still hasn't taken any mealies, but they are there for him if he decides he wants them, but he has been taking his hoppers so not overly worried!

He even approached me this morning when I opened the viv, and licked my hand so he's getting braver and more trusting every day!

Anyhoo, some of the locusts look like this now:

Masuka is roughly 9.5/10inches long. Are these 5th moult ones too big?

I bought them as 3rd moult, have fed a few that look to be 4th moult now (taken with no issues) but a tad scared about these as they look scary to me haha!

Can't wait to take pics, don't wana hurt his eyes with flash and it's top dark to take without.

Plenty years ahead for that though

I've gone on the width rather than length.I did once give Jeff a locust which afterwards I thought might have been a bit big but he was fine. Just go with what you are happy with as we tend to be over cautious with our bubbas

ooh er, they are seriously scary looking! I think that the rule is more of a guideline really and states that the length of the bug should be around the size of the gap between the eyes.

I'll check that. Silly question coming up....I've heard the no wider than between the gap of the eyes rule.

Does that mean no wider like the length of the bug shouldn't be bigger than the gap between the eyes, or the thickness of the bugs body? If that makes sense lol.

I'll see if they are bigger than his head though, thanks!

Are they bigger than his head? The general rule is prey around the gap between the eyes and no bigger than their head. Glad to hear your making progress

I knoooow! I was so happy he actually approached me, like walked from one side of the viv to the other where I'd opened it. First time that's happened! OH is very impatient but my way is paying off
