I planned on popping these into the bottom of the viv as a flooring for the moment, without actually using the adhesive part (leaving the paper on so it can be removed easily to clean)

Is this safe? Seen something on another forum re fumes from the adhesive?

as above or just get the tiles with no adhesive on.

I would be a bit worried about the paper somehow coming off, and the snake getting glued. You could maybe get an off cut of normal lino/ vinyl, and just use that for the floor? It would have the advantage of being in 1 piece, or you could cut it down to any size you'd like - and there would be no worries about glue fumes.
