But, surprisingly, not for a crestie!

Having done yet more research, and speaking to OH, we've decided on a leopard gecko. He wasn't keen on a crestie, and the fact they can be quite flighty was a bit scary too. So when he suggested a leo, started looking into them. Just waiting on the kit to arrive now, then start the hunt for the perfect leo!

Has anyone used Blue Lizard or Geckomania for pets before? These are 2 places I'm thinking about - Blue Lizard have some ready for sale in a few weeks and Geckomania have some pretty ones too!

Don't we all? Lol

Yeah they have lovely faces!

The one I'm enquiring about is 9 months old (I said 11 months earlier, I got that wrong!) and they say he is pretty good to handle, a little jumpy but calms down fairly quick. It'll take time but more than willing to put the time in.

Leos are gorgeous. I love the way they always look as if they're smiling.
They are very clever at applying perfect eyeliner too!!
Take care though....they can make a very quick dash for it if they want and they can jump a good distance too!

Well the bugs sound alot easier than I initially though so that's a bonus

Just awaiting an email about a gecko I found......can't stop checking my inbox now!

I don't feed crickets either, i keep the locusts and mealworms on porridge oats and give them a mix of veg, usually apple, carrot and green leaves

Ah yeah I've heard of dubia roaches, they might be a shout then! Thanks for the link, ordering now!

The majority of the set up should come tomorrow or Wed, can't wait!

not quite a quid but still really cheap and will last you a very long time.
serena_08 Posted - 02/09/2013 : 17:10:08
I don't feed crickets because they 1 stink and 2 get ignored lol kira eats mealies supers and dubia roaches. The mealies and supers come in bran so I just top it up with crushed weetabix and then chuck scraps of fruit and veg in. Remeber to take any leftovers out because it goes mouldy real quick! The roaches get veg too but they seem to eat anything and everything within minutes lol.

Another tip about the tail, I was nervous handling her being under the impression it will drop if you touch it, but unless you grab it, they feel extremely threatened or trap it you're safe :)

Great tip thanks! Sounds adorable!

I'm thinking of getting lino for the bottom of the cage, safe for gecko and fairly easy to clean/swap when cleaning.

And as for gutloading crickets/mealworms, I've read oats/bran crushed up and veg like carrots, potatoes? What does everyone else use?

Sorry just kinda thinking outloud here!

You can buy a bag of pure calcium off ebay for a quid and it will last you a loooong time lol. Only dust food every other feed if you get a grown on one :)

If its anything like my Kira you will find white footprints all round the calcium dish which I find quite cute haha.

Awww that's a great story!

I've got my eye on the normal I mentioned earlier, he's 11 months old and gorgeous....hopefully he's still available by the time the set up is ready!
lupi lou Posted - 02/09/2013 : 16:08:22
Its quite strange really as I wasn't really fussed about having a Leo I wanted another snake, but the o/h wanted one and I had the opportunity to incubate some eggs... then when Jeff hatched I was besotted with him! They do have super little smiley faces and loads of character too.
Freddiesmum Posted - 02/09/2013 : 16:00:55
They do have lovely faces happy looking little fellows!

Wow that is an amazing change in colour and pattern! Very cool! Thanks for that.

So cute you've had him since an egg
lupi lou Posted - 02/09/2013 : 15:53:16
They start off with bands as hatchlings, I would have thought if it is het for both Bell and Eclipse it will be a normal. As for which is better I think its personal preference. Jeff is my first leo and I've had him from an egg, he is now really tame. I be inclined to say get a baby so you can watch it grow and it's colors develop, they can be a little quick but soon settle. Heres a pic of Jeff the day he hatched:

And this is him now:

Just to give you an idea of how much their color can change

Leos have such pretty faces
Freddiesmum Posted - 02/09/2013 : 15:00:26
I know I can't wait!

Here's a random question. I see one which is 'Het Bell 50% het Eclipse' - is this just a normal with hets? It doesn't look spotty like the normals, it's more 'banded' looking, but is that because it is a baby? Will it eventually be dotted?

Sorry for being so clueless haha!

Also, any preference in getting a baby or an adult for a first timer?
