My brain is in overload -_-
I know cresties need a 2% UV bulb but for heating wise and thermostat wise i cant seem to find what im after.
Im struggling as i want to get things all sorted before i get my baby.
Any suggestions to best bulbs to use?

I have mat stats for my corn snakes, these are termed on/off stats as they just turn the heat source off when it reaches the desired temperature and back on again when temp drops (usually about 1-2 degrees)
Pulse stats maintain temp with less of a drop (some one more technical may come along and explain properly). Also when using a ceramic heater pulse stats lengthen the life of the heater as it is not constantly turned on and off.
You can also get dimmer stats, these are designed for use with light bulbs, you wouldn't want a light source going on and off to maintain the temperature.
I wanted a stat suitable for a ceramic heat source, but also one that would provide a higher day time temp and drop the night time temp a few degrees - hence getting the day/night pulse stat.
There is loads of conflicting advice on the requirements of Crested Geckos - I just ask loads of questions on a couple of fb groups, stalk threads on rfuk and generally search the internet

whats the difference between pulse stats and just stats?
maybe one day i'll do a planted viv but not for now. Love the look of some though :)

I am in the process of planning and setting up a live planted viv for Ludo.
There is lots of differing opinions on crestie requirements, but I will be providing a thermal gradient in the viv by having a ceramic heater above the mesh top, a light hood containing both a uvb bulb and a 'natural' light bulb.
The light hood will be on a timer to turn the lights off at night and the ceramic will be on a day/night pulse stat so I am able to lower the temp at night.
Lots of useful information on crestie groups on FB

I just use heat mats, my bedroom through the day is really cold in winter, then she gets 2 mats, one on the bottom, one on the side

thanks

Yeah sure. Most care sheets I read vary or don't specify. I use both and prefer heat mats.
ScaryVonHayleystine Posted - 20/08/2013 : 20:37:01
So mats are okay for cresties definitely cause everything i read says nothing but bulbs :S
Callazagy Posted - 20/08/2013 : 19:25:17
Heat mat on one side of the viv with a normal mat stat will do just fine. And theirs mixed opinions on whether UV is necessary, I only use one for my breeding female.

ive found a thermostat i believe to be what im after, the issue is that ive only ever worked with mats and not bulbs and i over worry :L
Ive found a habistat stat and for less light as nocturnal ive found a 100W ceramic bulb....good/bad?
