Posted - 31/07/2013 : 20:57:40 after much deliberation it's been decided that middle son's birthday this year is definitely NOT another snake (six is about right, imo) so I'm finally giving in to his request for the past three years and after some basic reading up on various lizardy type things, we've agreed that a crestie is the way to go. we've already got everything we'd need re set up, tall viv already furnished, and mat+stat including combined thermometer/hydrometer etcetc, and we've looked at and handled some in one of the branches of P@H near us, but they only had two, and they were fifty quid. So, whaT i need to know is; are there crestie breeders about? whats the standard price range, (realising that morphs will make a difference) where should i go to in the manchester area to find a good choice of morphs at reasonable pricing? all input welcomed, cheers chaps xx nicky |

Posted - 31/07/2013 : 23:00:12 ok picked that up via preL, but cant get the link to open- what you've suggested sounds ideal, re number, timescale and price(ish) tho cd you round it down to the nearest ten? (petrols gonna be a killer all the way to the top of the m66) if you mail me at sweekles at hotmail dot com rather than using the other thing, ill send you my mobile number. best, nicky |

Posted - 31/07/2013 : 22:30:04 lee- thanks for that- i've had a look at V+V but they seem to be as pricey as P@H, if not more so- and in fact actually in the past I've found that the main [problem with that [place is you go for one specific thing and get distracted (hypnotised??) into looking at something else and before you realise whats happening you're going home with four extra animals instead of the one you wanted |

Posted - 31/07/2013 : 21:19:29 I'm about 50mins from Manchester, I have 3 hatchlings left but I only have flames, Ive been selling them on ad sites for £30 each, that's about the cheapest I've seen. 1 ready now the other 2 in a few weeks.

Posted - 31/07/2013 : 21:08:16 Hi there, I'm a crestie breeder, though probably a bit far off for you though I do know some great breeders most though are a bit far off for you - if you look around on the captive bred forums or other classified forums you will find some fantastic morphs. If you are really sold by a particular crestie please do consider paying to have it couriered to you :) it is a bit extra expense but totally worth it.
Try not to take anything big chained pet stores say and i'd advise you to stay away from buying from them, they buy in mass produced animals you are right to look for a local breeder.
Price wise you are looking at about £30-£40 for lower end morphs like tiger, flame, etc higher end morphs like pinstripe, paternless, etc are more pricey about £50-£70 although you do get breeders who price them all the same and then you get a real bargain :) there's not a lot known about genetics of crested geckos and so there's no real rule as to what you will get when you breed 2 together, i have had several different morphs from the same mum and dad, just the luck of the draw really :) nice and exciting though.
If you need any other help or advice crestie wise I am more than happy to help :) love these wee lizards to bits |
