No harm in thinking ahead, even if it's for a few years down the line and you change your mind by the time you get there; making plans is fun :)

I can't help much with which is better, as I have zero knowledge of either species, but it probably depends on exactly what you want in a snake. In any case, so long as you know your limits and wait until you have the means to look after such a giant, I don't see any harm in doing your research early, if anything it just means you'll be extra prepared when you get there :)

Not trying to have a go at any one, just mentioning this because I'm extremely guilty of making plans waaaay before they can come into effect :)

I wouldnt worry about it yet, see how you feel later when you actually are older and more experienced id say.

you already have a potentially SIX FOOT long snake:

This is our girl Sunny,5'9" at 3yrs-so she will get a bit bigger yet!
Try looking up 'Taggart'or 'Big T' on this forum he's a boy over 6'.
Its easy to think of corns as diddy snakes-lord knows I'm as guilty of it as the next person-But in my minds eye I picture ALL my snakey's NEEDING min.3'x2'x2'viv one day just like Sunny!
Don't tell my eldest son-BUT when he finaly goes to (hopefully)Uni-or where ever, his room will be my snakey room

I do understand the allure of the giants, many years ago I raised a Burmese girl up-eventualy she went to Isle of Wight Zoo.Not before she had her own room complete with plumbed in full size bath tub
Even then the poops were a thing to fear

One day-or so the dream goes-Lavender retics will be small enough to house in a viv....hopefully by then the queue for Palmetto's will find me finally at the front

A boa would be a good "bigger" snake to move up to and depending on how big you want you have a few species and localities to choose from. A retic can be a whole different ball game. Most boas you should be able to handle on you own but a fully grown retic will take a few people to move around. You could always look into the dwarf retics but you need to purchase these from a reputable breeder or you may end up buying a normal retic and looking after an 18'+ snake.

How long have you been keeping snakes as they aren't much of a 'beginner' snake, wouldn't consider either until you've read up on it properly
