Posted - 01/05/2013 : 20:44:30 What are they like to keep, much different from corns? What size of home would be needed for a 4 month old? Are they as friendly as corns? I really like the look of them, and have read up on their care. Any info from actual keepers would be much appreciated |

Posted - 01/05/2013 : 21:13:18 Thanks so much SB, that's been really helpful I've been a little worried about the feeding, have read they are aggressive feeders, and being a coward would rather avoid being bitten Hermes looks and sounds adorable, and I'm so tempted with the little 4 month old's, just waiting for them to be sexed. I'd prefer a male and intend to eventually use my 24" monkfield for him as he'll stay quite small, and I've been banned from adding anything else that needs a 3 ft viv |

Posted - 01/05/2013 : 20:57:26 Hi Hissy, I'm probably not the best to give advice as I only got my Sept 12 house snake at the end of Jan, but he is an adorable little sweetie (don't actually know if he/she but calling him a he lol). They like the hot spot a little warmer than corns, about 32 degs, and apparently need a moist hide at all times (although he very rarely seems to go in it - is in blue currently and still spends all his time in the warm hide!). Otherwise care is pretty much the same in my experience.
Hermes would have been 4 months when I got him - and he is still in a small faun now as he is so dinky! Sooo soft and silky, and far more laid back than both my corns who would try to dart off at every opportunity when smaller, he just sits curled up in my hand as happy as Larry :D
They are nocturnal so don't see him out all that much during the day - but he's in the bedroom for quarantine, so will often see him out when I take the kids up to bed so will get him out for a cuddle then.
When I got him I was told he was a shy feeder who had to be left overnight - no problems there, he seemed scared of the tongs the first time I tried, but took happily from my fingers, then from my fingers whilst on my hand a couple of times when he seemed nervous in the feeding tub... then he got more confident so went back in the tub, and now I definitely use tongs as he strikes every time! |
