Posted - 17/01/2013 : 13:59:48 Hey guys. I've been doing some reading up on these snakes, and they don't seem to be all that different from corn snakes (husbandry wise!) Can anyone who owns both corns and hognoses confirm this?
I don't think i'll be getting one anytime soon (OH is still getting over the shock of Emmy ) but maybe nearer the end of the year, or when Emmy has outgrown her faun and is into her big girl viv, it may be an option. |

He he he thanks Red, it's Scales and Tails who I was waiting on as they were getting one in for me - and obviously I couldn't phone yesterday as they were closed - but I phoned today and they have one waiting for us which we're going to collect next week once everything is all set up
At least I had a tiny bit of warning about the poops so I won't panic when it happens and start posting on here asking what is wrong with my daughter's new stinky hoggy rofl!!!
Oh and Laws - I'm definitely looking forward to the famous hoggy behaviour, just hope he doens't mess me about with feeding issues lol.
I take it you will quarantine the hoggie? |

I think this is totally unacceptable, you hoggy owners come on here, posting all your cute piccys, making us non-owners desparate to get one... and you don't tell us about the atomic poo thing! Misrepresentation, that's what it is!!
*Goes off in a huff, and to phone rep shop to see if they've got one in for us yet...*
Unless I am thinking of someone else I believe you live not far from me? If you do and you seriously want a hoggie there is one for sale not far from me in a village called Bacton also Scales and Tails in Needham Market has a hoggie for sale as well. |

Posted - 22/01/2013 : 11:24:53 They are worth the poo and all the fuss. They are cracking snakes. Not afraid of anything. Would take a pit bull on. Love being out. Proper attitude. :) |

Posted - 20/01/2013 : 19:34:35 Oh I had forgotten about the poo! Hero hasn't eaten for 16 weeks and pooed for the first time since the end of sept today. Jesus it stank!! I forgot about the food size thing. They 'when feeding' love to eat often :) hero is currently on fluffs will eat every 3 days if I let him but he's on every 4. Two more feeds and he will be back on doubles every 5 then once weened off scented food he will go up to smalls on which he will stay for the rest off his life every 4-5 days females will take mediums as adults. I am yet to see an overweight hoggie :) |

Posted - 20/01/2013 : 19:23:47 I have kept my male im a 9 litre rub , he definately has plenty of room . I have my adults females in 24.5 litre rubs again they have plenty of room . I brumated my hogs this year so didnt have to worry about raising their ambients , but i also have a small male this years hatchie and i have made no extra attempts to raise ambients up until now however i have just put an oil rad into the snake room for them as with the snow my house isnt warm enough . I think nasicus has got it bang on with their temperaments! feeding i find they will literally just eat it whether im watching or not , some of them get hissy at me after they have finshed eating and will mock strike .
Their poo stinks , worse than corns , good lord blugh!! and generally when it comes to feeding and prey size , i would only feed an item as wide as they are , they dont do as well with say the 1.5 x the size like some snakes , best not to push them . At high enough temps and feeding ever 4/5 days they go really fast anyways .
Fantastic little snakeys!! |

I'd adore for Scout to be able to go back into his 1.5ft viv! My point was mostly that 9ltr can work well, especially if you have trouble with them feeding, but I think I must have typed that bit in my head lol |
