Right so my sister is getting me another mantis for Xmas. Was supposed to be a surprise but I bumped into her in there shop lol. It's going to be a devils flower mantis and requires more than room temp. I am wondering if this will work. Excuse the poor picture lol

I would also like to know what wattage to buy and I have been tools by several that I can use a mat stat with a ceramic bulb.

The first to blocks are my giant mantis and the 3rd my Indian flower mantis the large block is hero my hoggie which will have his own mat at 31c

Name said that the ambient is not that important and aslong as the hot spot is right. We have also decided to brumate him for the full 8 weeks eeek!

Some do use on off stats with ceramics but I believe they shorten the life of the bulb and I don't think you will be able to keep a stable enough temperature with an on off stat. Pulse Stats are better for ceramics really. I use a pulse stat with our ceramic and it keeps it at a constant temperature. You could put a piece of hardboard on the back of the cube to help with temps. I would also be a little concerned of the temps you have on the right hand side, which if I have read right is where Hero will be. You really need warmer air temps, around 26c in the cool end for him or you could run in to feeding problems again. I am honestly not sure you will get those range of temps you have written with a ceramic in that space.

It's open back and front :) and my flat is on the cooler sign. But I could run a mat along the bottom hhhmmmmmmmm

What about the stat question will on off be ok?

Not sure and they are not that cheap to experiment with. I have got a 150w in my lx36 and the hot end is 31.5 deg C and the opposite end is about 23 deg C, but that is enclosed and you have got an open front and I can't see if the back is open so you will loose a bit of heat due to that. And how warm you room is will have an effect, sorry I can't be much help but maybe if you know somebody with a ceramic set up who may have a spare bulb that you could borrow to do some tests with?

What wattage do you think I will need?

It may work but only trial and error will tell you if you get the desired temperature drops at those distances
