so i have put a deposite down on 2 beardies (YAY!!!) just wandering if anyone can tell me what the best lighting to use in my vivexotic vivarium? i know i need a uvb bulb which is fairly simple to fit. however im not sure which heat light to go for whether to go for the exo terra one with a hood or a basic bulb with a cage?...also do you need a night light ive spoken to a few people and all saying different things?
Thank you |

All the best Danny |

Posted - 25/11/2012 : 11:27:03 Yeh when i asked about it they said the guy who does it will be in when collect so not everyone there can do it and doesnt try to do it which is good i think..hopefully will be lucky :)...ive found the shop really good to be honest have you heard of swallow aquatics? |

Posted - 25/11/2012 : 11:24:41 You might be lucky. A lot of breeders can sex them quite young but not necessarily general staff in a pet shop, no disrespect intended. Maybe the breeder has sexed them.....fingers crossed for you!

Posted - 25/11/2012 : 11:03:48 I'd have doubts that they can be truely sexed at such a young age but I hope you manage to get two females! I used to have one of the 'red' females. Her colours were awesome and got brighter with each shed. I'm sure you'll love them, they have such endearing characters and are great to have around. You can see one of mine on my post 'beardie surfing the web' in the photo section. Fingers crossed for you that they are both girlies!! |

Posted - 25/11/2012 : 10:50:34 Mine don't have any night lighting. They have a 12 hour setting, all lights on at 9a.m and all off at 9p.m. The basking bulb is on the thermostat so comes on and goes off according to temperature. I do hope you didn't mind me saying about the issues of keeping two together. Mine are brother & sister and kept in seperate vivariums. In the wild most beardies are solitary creatures and only interact for mating, so it's not essential to have a pair. The only reason I've got two is because I love them!

My beardies have a UVB tube with reflector along the top of the viv. Then they have an ordinary 60w light bulb for basking on a habistat thermometer. They are on a timer which switches their lights, both UVB & basking, off at 9p.m. I've kept beardies for years using this setup and never had any problems. If you're getting two babies they will still be too young to sex. Were you aware that males will fight and a male and female may not be a good idea together because once he becomes sexually mature the male will pester the female to the point of stressing her out and you'll probably have to seperate them....sorry to put the dampers on your joy
Ok im leaning more towards an ordinary bulb with a cage, i prefer the look of the exoterra hoods but they are so big and bulky lol. Do you use any night lighting?
The shop said would be able to sex for me when collect them next week, when can you sex them from?. I did think that but shop said would be fine (which suprised me as they are generally very good). IM hoping they are both females but if not will have to swap one which will be sad but cant afford to get 2 setups and want them to live tofether really :) |
