Hi, Ive just found a couple of obviously infertile eggs in the females terra.
Im not sure whos they are, although my sister said Brindle was acting a bit odd when she tried to handle her, they are both just about at breeding weight 36g and 37g, so im guessing they are fine to be passing eggs.
I can't find a great deal of information on this, but im guessing its just like a corn snake randomly laying infertile eggs, without coming into contact with a male? Has anbody else come across this in crested geckos?
As I said thier were two eggs, so its unlikly thier be anymore or her becomeing egg bound, right?
I was actually thinking of introducing the male soon to breed them, but I might leave it a bit to ensure the female rebuilds her calcium reserves, I will have another attempt at checking the calcium sacs first. I think ill put a laying box in thier aswell just in case?
The three of them were housed together when they were younger, so even though the females can store sperm I think they would have been too young and too long ago for these to be possibly fertile?
Thanks for any info on this subject.

Yeah I have my heat mat on at 24oC, just a smidge of heat should Harley need it. |

Thanks a lot guys, some good info thier that I will take on board.
I might turn the temps down a bit they are at the warmer end of the scale, 26-27oC(my room temp is quite cool so I have a heat mat on one side of the terra).
I still need to master the art of checking calcium sacs, I keep trying with Brindle I got her to bite my finger last night but not long enough to check the sacs. Im not to worried about that they all eat the crestie diet and all livefood is supplemented with calcium and every other feed with D3.
So I shall now do a lot more reasearch on breeding, and work out what im going to do next. |

Crestie girls will lay infertile eggs when they are of breeding size , normally two a month or so , if the temps are abit higher etc . Pop a lay box in and just discard them if they definitely are infertile . She shouldnt get egg bound as she's in the breeding weight , just keep an eye out and pop some calcium suppliments on her food .
I would say if her calcium sacs are lookin ok , then u could introduce the male as as soon the weather goes cooler it naturally slows breeding / egg production right down and then to a stop in the middle of winter . It's then that they will usually store sperm , maybe just enought to lay a few clutches probably 6 eggs or so xx |

Both look female to me too, and yeah I am not sure that its correct but I would put my money on it been Brindle that laid them.
If there has been no contact with the male at all then they must be infertile. Not heard of it before with Geckos.
If there has been contact though (mating in cretsies looks and sounds like fighting) then the female can lay 2 eggs every 30 days or so for a long time as they retain sperm, they can in theory lay themselves to death but you can cool them to stop egg production which is a good idea when breeding them if the calcium sacks are depleted. I'm researching breeding cresties at the moment starting next year so my head is full of this guff at the moment. |

Double checked and got pics, still convinced thier female -
Flame (no pores) -
Brindle (no pores) -
Might the fact that Brindles vent looks moist indicate she was the one that laid, she was always the most dominent and fastest to develop etc. Not sure how long ago they were laid because they were found under the reptile carpet during a clean. Anyway I will put a laying box in from now on so hopefully I will find them sooner in future. |

Yeah you need to check for pores to sex a crestie.
Was discussing this the other day so have a picture to hand. This is Harley's business end, he is a male. You will see a line of dots above the that runs from one side to the other between his legs, this is the guarantee that you have a male, no dots, no male.
Harley is a bit bulgy now but even a month ago he wasn't and I thought he was a she but the pores gave him away. They can have slightly fatter tails that hide/disguise the bulge too. |

Certainly looks that way, my three cresties are 2years old so the sex should be obvious, one of them is clearly a male and is seperate from the two females (that don't have hemipenal bulges). I must admit its the frist thing that sprung to mind that I may have made a mistake, but im certain ;) |

First thing I'd question is are you sure there all females the ones together. |
