ok so i know its a moth.....

its wing span is about 3 inches

the underside of the top part of his wings are red and the top of the inner part of the wing is red with a black eye.

Me too! But I don't like creepy critters in general! Why is it that when you mush a moth, its dust and not goo that comes out? lol

There are loaads of moths about at min :D I like them, as long as they dont fly at my face.

Saw a massive one a while back, it was all a creamy yellowy colour, proper nice :)

georgina i think that was a privet hawk moth. we had one hatch for us. will post on and you can see if its the same.

Cool. It was huge, are they common, I've never seen one before. The cat brought in a caterpillar a similar size in the summer. Green, with a big thorn like hook on its bum :)

That is smerinthus ocellata or the Eyed Hawk Moth for those who couldn't give a rats behind about latin lol. Lovely looking moth but I'm a bug geek so would say that.
