I know the temp thing is so varied where ever you look, but me personally i think 28 is fine at the highest, and 20 at the lowest, but i like MY temps between 23 - 26

The blackout roller blinds have a thermal backing so in the summer the heat is reflected rather than coming through with a normal roller blind. If they are not these then it may be worth chanaging to them. If I leave our blackout roller blind up and just close the curtains our living room gets quite warm. When I pull the blind down the temperature drops by one or two degrees in Berts exo terra. You can feel a difference in room temperature. We get the sun in the living room from midday right through until the sun goes down so you can imagine how hot it would be without blackout blinds:)

They are roller blinds and curtain on the windows and a roller blind on ther front door and blackout curtains on the patio doors x when I spray goyle comes straight out :) he loves it :)

What sort of blinds do you have? Blackout roller blinds are the best for keeping heat out and you can put them on glass doors as well if the sun comes through the door. I know its easy to worry over the heat with cresties. I keep a very close eye on Berts temperatures and if it starts to worry me I give a quick spray with cool water, avoiding Bert of course.

Sorry lotabob, I had just had a 'discssion' with ny nieghbour about reasonable music levels at reasonable times of the night.

My concern it due to have a teeny weeny flat, my front room has a glass door and a 5 by 4 winow and my bedroom has 7 by 7 patio doors and a s by 3 window and a 2 by 2 window, which heats the rooms up and over 27. I have 2 desk fans in each room, already with wet flannels on and goyle has a small (made for dog grates) fan with and ice blcok in front on top to circulate air. The corns vivs air temp stays at 21 but goyles air temp keeps soaring.was why I posted as I cannot lower the room temp any more, I keep the blinds shut to avoid direct sunlight coming in aswel.

I never said anything about or implying that you're 'flapping around like a child'. I never imply anything, if I thought that; I'd have said it. I apologise if you took what I said that way, I was reassuring you that as the above post said, there is no reason to worry, you had said you had a fan on in front of the setup, if there is good airflow in there, the moving air will steal body heat (bit like us in the wind, we soon get cold/cooler even on hot days).

As for the ice thing you are blowing the heat onto too small a surface area to effectively cool the air thats why it doesn't work, you could use evaporative cooling but its complicated and probably wont be that effective, basically if you blow air through a wet fabric (increased surface area) the heat in the air will be taken up my the water and the air should pass through and should if only partially be cooler but I dont recommend messing with fans and wet cloth, dont want to be responsible for an electrocution.

To reassure you though that its only a very minor issue, we can handle them without killing them, we are far hotter than even the hottest of days and these cold blooded ones are very good at robbing heat from anything hotter than they are.

Lotabob was there any need to be quite so condascending? Implying that I'm flapping around panicing like a child, I was just asking for suggestions. There is a lot dicussion on what temp to keep them at and I was just going with what I was told. I have been told low 20's for day time and high teens for night, at that is the generel concensus on the fb page. I find to keep the humidity at 75 I have to spray twice a day, and also so he can drink on a daily basis.
lotabob Posted - 30/05/2012 : 19:16:11
Yeah I've done absolutely nothing, the heat mat runs at 25oC on the surface of the mat so has little to no effect on the air temp in the viv but gives somewhere to warm up if needed. Its drying out quicker than normal so I'm spraying every day instead of every other but thats it.I'm not going to start panicing every time its a warm day, he is in the coolest room in the house, and they really arent as delicate as over 25oC and they die, they aren't made of wax.

(obviously within limits, if it it seriously warm which it never is then I would take action but its about proportionate response)

The person we got our crestie from keeps all of his in a heated shed at a constant 24c and they all do well. And he tells me it does rise slightly above this in very warm weather. He told me that as long as the temp does not get to like 29 for days on end then they are fine and will uterlise a cold damp moss hide in the warmer weather if they get to hot.
coxymk2 Posted - 29/05/2012 : 21:49:09
With the warm weather i have used an ice block wrapped in a tea towel to keep my corns viv cool just kept taking it in and out

Well there you go, learn something new every day lol
Georgina Posted - 29/05/2012 : 20:28:29
A lot of people katie never use a heat mat, just keep them at room temp, I have a mat on a stat set at 18 degrees incase the night temps drop, but I have unplugged it and plugged the fan in, he also had a fruit ice cube last night:)

I know, it was the crested gecko uk fb group that I was advised on. I'm also having an issue with him not sticking to glass.

He is as active as normal, I bought him live food today as a treat he's now prowling around his viv :)
Simmy_82 Posted - 29/05/2012 : 20:15:00
Only in the colder months Katie. They are usually kept at room temp. Which in the average house is 22-24*C. Heat Matt usually used on the side of the viv if you need to raise the temp a bit.

We've prob read diff care sheets Georgina. So much conflicting info on them out there.
Katie.Dublin Posted - 29/05/2012 : 19:48:20
Do cresties not need heat mats or anything no?
Georgina Posted - 29/05/2012 : 17:35:36
I have been told that 24 is the absolute max, and they can dies from one day. It had been 23.8 all day and all night, and 23.1 today, I only have 2 rooms and they are both the same temp, I have misted a few times more than normal and had the fan on.
Simmy_82 Posted - 29/05/2012 : 16:58:12
Is it possible to move it to a cooler room? Also i assume a degree over the guideline temp wont affect him too much. I know they struggle on anything above 30. I would also assume as long as its not a constant 23.8 24/7 then he should be ok. Tho i have never kept one, i've researched them a bit as i'd like one.
scottishbluebird Posted - 29/05/2012 : 16:22:48
it didnt happen, but if it got too hot i was gonna wet towel with cold water, squeeze out and put over back of rub
viraleye Posted - 28/05/2012 : 22:49:06
