My Pastel boa spends a long time in his water bowl, sometimes a day or to at a time.No sign of mites or shed aproaching. Also temps are correct.
So, is this normal?
Cheers.

Thanks - we've got a digital hydrometer and it's fine now with a heat matt but I'll monitor it when I install the ceramic and if it's too dry I'll change to orchid bark.

Depending on how a vivs being heated, some heat sources will dry a viv out. An aspen will dry a viv out even more.

Ok, I am no expert at all, but this post worried me a bit as I've got a new boa which I have on aspen. I've just checked around the internet and read several guides including http://www.redtailboas.com/content/117-part-1-ultimate-boa-constrictor-care-guide-view-line.html this one which is a beast. They say humidity should be around 50-60%, I've assumed they're correct. My boa is on aspen (she's a constrictor het hypo/salmon) and all seems fine with the humidity.

Could just be that the OP lives in a much less humid part of the world/country? (Somerset seems nice and soggy right now and our house is old and soggy as well!) But I'm a little worried and don't want to do anything wrong for my lovely snakes!

i hate it when pet shops give the wrong advice. some shops just get as many different reptiles in just to have a good selection and then give out poor advice, if they just took a little bit of time to research then maybe people would be able to care for their animals they way theu want to.

rant over

stegore put up some pics when the vivs all sorted boa's a beautiful snakes xx

and it seems i've had bad info from pet shop.
I was told not to worrie about humidity,
and i've got him on aspen.
So tommorow im getting Orchid bark and a humidity sensor.
Thinking about it he dose seem a bit like dry hands to the touch.
