If you remember I started a thread last week asking whether I should get the little western Hognose at my local pet shop. Well I'm sure you won't be surprised to hear that I picked her up last friday.

She's pretty small for her age, only 10g at 8mths old. They were feeding her 2 pinkies once a week, so hopefully if I increase that to every 4 days or so she'll soon start gaining weight.

I was intending on leaving her a week to settle in but she hadn't been fed since a week last Friday and was going mad searching for food around her tub, so I decided to try offering her some food. Knowing what hoggies can be like, I wasn't holding my breath, but.....

"What's taking so long?"

1st pinkie

2nd pinkie

She took both pinkies straight from the tweezers without a problem.

Between her actually eating and the fact that she hasn't hissed or struck once, I don't think anyone has ever explained to her how a hoggie is supposed to act.

Aw bless, she is slim isn't she. She's far more confident than mine though with her feeding so I'm sure she'll fill out in no time.
Very cute!

Thanks everyone. I'm so glad I got her.

Hoggie really is quite skinny but hopefully she'll take to being fed every 4 days instead of weekly and start to gain weight. She certainly seems to be enjoying having a heat mat with a stat set to the correct temperature, unlike at the pet shop. She's pushed all of the aspen under her coconut hide out of the way and is lying spread out directly over the mat.

Still haven't decided on a name yet, am leaning towards Betty at the moment, though knowing me I'll probably change my mind again. Lol.

I'd call it Patterson, or Patty if its a girl.

After the spade mill up the road.

Not got a name yet. I like human names for my pets. Thought of Penelope, after the film with Christina Ricci about a girl with the face of a pig, or Peggy, Betty, Maggie..... I just don't know. :-/
