Posted - 05/09/2011 : 00:08:54 I use a red reflector bulb, it's about 2 quid from B&Q attached to a dimmer stat. The only time it ever gets turned off is when it blows. I currently am running 7 months solid on one of my bulbs. |

Posted - 04/09/2011 : 12:53:46 when i had my 2 beardies they had 10%uv strip lights along the back of the viv 6-8" from the floor with a dimming stat and a reptile heat bulb, never bothered with ir bulbs as the temps never dropped to low at night in my house. are you getting a baby or adult? what substrate are you planning on using? heres a really good forum i got a load of great advice from when i had the beardies.

Posted - 31/08/2011 : 01:53:49 the infra red would be fine as a basking bulb and heat source and requires a dimmer same as the light.

Posted - 30/08/2011 : 23:00:42 a uv strip light is the next thing ive got to buy. i was actually thinking about using a infra red bulb as i heat source or nights as ive heard horror stories about the ceramic heaters.. sorry im a bit of a fool when it comes to proper set ups. would i need to buy two dimmer stats or just the one as im using a basking lamp aswell or does the infra red bulb work as a basking lamp aswell? |

Posted - 30/08/2011 : 07:52:07 Are you using a high output UV strip light as well? Not sure this little bulb would have enough UV on it's own. I use a 12% UV strip along the length of the viv and then use a normal household spotlight for heat at the basking spot. As gmac said, you need a dimming stat as you can't use a pulse stat with a bulb.
Beardies get their heat from above so a heatmat is no use to them. If your house is as cold as mine you'll need some type of night time heat too like a ceramic heater or I use an infra red reptile bulb (proper infra red doesn't disturb their sleep patterns) attached to a dimming stat to keep the temps into the 70s farenheit at night. |
