Hello!

I've been haunting the forum for a while now; I got my corn snake around Christmas and I've been using your forums search function since and I thought it was about time I introduced myself.

I'm Nobbo I own one corn snake, Leela, who I believe to be female as well as a hamster, Charlie, tropical fish and 2 dogs, Marleigh and Zeena.

Leela rewarded me today with her first shed to stay in one piece!

I've only ever managed to catch her doing the very tip of her tail. This time she did it right behind my back while I was watching T.V. I was gutted until I saw the complete shed

I keep a diary noting when I feed her and when she sheds, I haven't yet weighed or measured her!

I'm banned from having any more but I think I might be able to slip a nice hatchling ghost through the door when Leela needs a bigger viv

Hi Robert, it is really good that you have joined us officially - finally, after haunting us all this time ! You will have already found what a great forum this is with lots of experienced owners happy to give their advice and support. You also get lots of fun and friendship .

You have obviously done a fair amount of research on here already and found a lot of our great information. If you havent looked yet then checkout http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/corn_snake_care_sheet.htm and 'Your 1st Snake' http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4133, both really good at giving you the basics.

You will find that there is a large amount of conflicting information out there about corn keeping – on the internet, in books, etc. Even on here you will find that people have different opinions.....but at least you have a place to ask what you need to know and get the answers from experienced owners. Then you can decide what to do with what you are told.

I am not sure if you have found this but unfortunately many pet shops cannot be trusted with what they are telling you . I know that I double check anything I am told on here. Remember that no question is regarded as a silly question .....it is much better asked and answered, you will probably find others who want the info too! Normally I would direct Newbies to the search button, but no need to do that !! If you cant find the answer you are looking for using that then dont hesitate to ask!

I dont know whether you have thought of doing this, but I keep my own 'Snake Diaries', noting things like weight, length, feeding dates and what you feed, shedding dates, health problems. I know it seems a bit over the top but it is actually really helpful keeping track of your snake's health - I even note when Kellog and Silvesta poo !!

I am impressed, you have already complied with the unwritten forum rule - pics as soon as possible! I look forward to heading over to the photo section to see the beautiful Leela!

That is fantastic news about Leela shedding in one piece - just amazing isnt it! Did you manage to watch her do it? I am sure that they wait until we leave the room for 5 minutes and quickly wriggle out of their skin so that they can be nice and shiny when we come back !

A warning - corn snakes are addictive.....and yes, the majority of us have stood up, said "hello my name is ****, I am addicted to corns........! And I am proud of it!" You have started down that corn path so be warned!!

I look forward to getting to know you and Leela better.

xxx

Thank you all!

Leela is a ~7month old Amel I believe. All I was told by the pet shop was that she's a 09 hatchling. Pictures are up in photo section for those who fancy a snoop!
