Well, Hello!

I didnt plan on introducing myself so late,
but here is a little about me.

Firstly, the names Jay - and I'm from Leeds (Yorkshire), and love it here.
My profession is boxing, I got a contract when I turned 16 and it's basically gone upwards from there, I have fought in a large variety of weights and am on the rise to the heavyweight class (slowly but surely).

Snakes are a really new thing for me, I can honestly say that buying Roxy was a heat-of-the-moment decision, with which I should have spent more time considering.
However, I've never made a better decision to be honest.
I'm new to the game, but already loving every minute of learning how she works, and giving her time to learn how I work.
I now plan on getting more corn snakes, however not until Roxy is stable and happy.
Pics will come soon (When she's settled and comes out more)

Thanks for reading!

Jay.

Sorry about your shoulder Jay . How long ago did it happen....is it healing? Do you know what the repercussions should be on your boxing?

Welcome mate, think we have already spoke in threads but still.

I love boxing, your lucky to do it professionally. I boxed heavyweight as an amateur for 3 years from the age of 16. I was okay, but felt i had started a little late, the lads i was fighting had fought from a young age and experience was my down fall. Also i was 16 stone at 6' tall and too heavily built really, i was fighting lads 6'4 who had a major reach advantage over me.

Last year i decided that it wasnt for me and started weight lifting, im now training towards the regional strong man events next year.

Anyway just thought id introduce myself to you.

Welcome to the forum Jay and Roxy! You will have already found that this is a great forum with lots of experienced owners happy to give their advice and support. You also get lots of fun and friendship . I am not sure how much information you already know about corn snake keeping. I know you bought Roxy in the heat of the moment but you are obviously doing what is best for her now....shown just by the fact that you are on here and asking questions . I am sorry if I am repeating information you already know...but it is better heard twice than not at all.

The best place to look (which I am sure you have already seen ) is http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/corn_snake_care_sheet.htm, it has lots of information for new snake owners. Also read this topic on 'Your 1st Snake' http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4133

I am assuming you already know (and are are doing) this but will mention it anyway. The one-week rule...no handling or feeding for the first week to allow Roxy to get over the stress of the move and for her to get used to the new smells and her new surroundings. This means just putting your hand in to change the water daily and straighten the substrate, which means Roxy can get used to your smell and not be threatened by you. You are rarely advised this in a lot of pet shops but it is an important way of getting Roxy to de-stress and feel safe with you. It is a hard week, very frustrating, but worth it for her sake.

Unfortunately with many pet shops you cannot trust what they are telling you . Double check anything you have been told with us on here. Remember that no question is regarded as a silly question .....it is much better asked and answered, you will probably find others who want the info too! First place to look is in the top right hand corner of the screen where there is a search button...type in what you are worried about and see if you can find an answer, if not then dont hesitate to ask!

When you got Roxy I hope you got as much info about her as possible....shedding history, feeding history etc. Start your own 'Snake Diary', noting things like weight, length, feeding dates and what you feed, shedding dates, health problems. I know it seems a bit over the top but it is actually really helpful keeping track of your snake's health - I even note when Kellog and Silvesta poo !!

Unwritten forum rule - pics as soon as possible! This link will help - http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=14. I know this is hard in the beginning but we can wait....*she says drumming her fingers in frustration!*

A warning - corn snakes are addictive.....and yes, the majority of us have stood up, said "hello my name is **** and I am addicted to corns........! And I am proud of it!" You have just started down that corn path and you are already planning on getting more!!

Must admit that I know nothing about boxing but sounds like you must have talent to be training and fighting in the heavyweight class....and for it to be your profession already at age 18 !!

I am a half Yorkshire lass (my dad was born near Bridlington and family is still there) and definitely follow in his Yorkshire traits - visiting there feels like coming home and would move up if we could.

Hey Jay. Saw your comment and sig on my "moving home" thread and thought I'd say hi to you.

Boxings cool I follow most of the bigger fights on tv but know less than you im sure.

Although I can't comment as I not uploaded any photos of LegLess but you taken any yet?

You seem to have done some research on corns albeit after buying one but you are not the first and won't be the last!

Got any youtube videos of you K.O'ing someone!?

Welcome to the forum mate.
Corns are great mate especially when they have settled in to their new homes.

You never know one day you might be on Sky with the boxing.
Entering the arena is "OAKEY THE CONSTRICTOR"

Not as good a name as Jake the snake Roberts but we can work on that!
10% is all I ask for!

Rich.
