Posted - 05/09/2009 : 20:49:26 He is probably drinking at night. I was surprised by how many owners dont see their snakes drink as I see Kellog do it regularly. May not see him in the water for a while, until he is feeling totally safe. I would wait until settling in period is over before you feed him. Not sure about where you should feed him - wiser heads than mine will give you the answer to that and to the heat mat question. Sorry I cant answer everything. xxx |

Posted - 05/09/2009 : 20:04:37 A snake will usually hide for a day or 2 after a feed. Do you have hides in both cool and hot end? They need heat to help them digest. Because the feed came straight before a move it may hide a bit longer because of the stress of the move - not sure how wise it was for him to be fed immediately before being sold. They usually poo 4 or 5 days after eating, I think. You will find it when you fill its water bowl and smooth its substrate each day. Looks like dark bird poo surrounded by white/yellowish runny egg - cant believe how hard it is to describe! You will definitely know its there before you find it cos it stinks! A warning - when you begin to handle your snake that can often encourage them to poo so look for the signs, them going still and lifting their tail off the ground and then the opening of their vent. Its either back to the viv as soon as poss or aiming it onto kitchen roll, which is possible. Once you have been pooed on you are an official snake keeper! Think everything I have said is ok, but am sure that the 'veterans' will correct me as I am just a newbie and still learning. Good luck with getting a name that you want! xxx |

Posted - 05/09/2009 : 03:38:36 Definitely would advise against housing any snakes togther, especially when they are young. Lucifer has given you the reasons but I just wanted to add my support to what he has said. I only have 1 corn at the moment, but if I could I would get another one as soon as possible - probably more than 1. He is called Kellog (his name from his previous owner). If you look under some different topics you will get some ideas about what ours are called, and I know there is a discussion about names under two photo topics (checkout 'Snakes finally arrived' for some interesting names!). It is most likely that once you have your snake, seen what it looks like and watched if for a few days, a name will come to you.... xxx |

only 3 more day to go then i can get him out thats if he wants to lol..
There isn't any advantages to keeping them together other than cost reduction, corn snakes are solitary animals and do not require company.
I think it would be best for me to copy a small section from the care sheet on the website:
quote: Can multiple Corn Snakes be kept together in the same vivarium?
It is unadvisable to house multiple Corn Snakes together, but many owners do without any problems. It is a big ongoing debate into the pros and cons of housing together, but really it is all down to personal choice whether you choose to house your Corn snakes together or not.
The dangers for housing together include the chance of cannibalism (especially in younger Corn snakes), early or unexpected breeding, stress in one or all of the Corn snakes and even disease passing from one Corn snake to the other and doubling your vet bills.
If you do decide to house your corn snakes together in one vivarium it is important that both snakes are of a similar size, preferably adults. You will also need to add twice as many hides to the vivarium to ensure that one snake does not dominate the best hiding spots, which would cause stress to the other. You should feed separately and be ready for if breeding occurs. I would also advise having a spare RUB (Really Useful Box- plastic tub with air holes added to it), heat mat and thermostat handy, just in case problems arise and you need to separate your Corn snakes quickly.
I have 3 small plastic vivariums and will eventually when they grow, replace them with 3 stackable wooden vivariums.
