Posted - 31/07/2013 : 14:00:23 Hello Everyone,
I joined up in May, but this is the first time I've been able to login so I thought I'd introduce myself.
I've been an animal person my whole life and have always had pets; hamsters, gerbils, Guinea Pigs, Rabbits, Cats, Birds, Tropical Fish, Tortoises, Geckos.....and snakes have all had homes with me, some from birth to the end and some only temporarily while they were between homes......and I loved them all!
I hadn't kept any reptiles since childhood and really really wanted to get back into it, so my long suffering OH (despite not being an animal person himself or having even seen a real snake before, let alone hold one) bought me a snake for my birthday this year. (He wasn't involved in the actual choosing of anything, or the collection....He just paid for it all )
So, I've been the proud owner of my gorgeous little corn Archimedes for nearly 3 months now and I love him to pieces!!
Here's a pic of him on the day I got him:

and here's a fairly recent pic of him (laughing at me)

Posted - 02/08/2013 : 18:41:07 Ann I see. Thanks for the explanation....I quite like 'anery cube' hehe! I've been looking into various morphs and trying to remember the variants and what characteristic corresponds with which particular gene..... I'm starting to wrap my head around it, but it may take a while - I loved genetics once upon a time, but my brain has become a little slow and soft these days! Iansviv is fantastic and I confess to have already spent rather significant amounts of time looking through it and trying not to dribble on my ever growing list of snakes I must have! |

Posted - 02/08/2013 : 14:52:13 Sorry to confuse you! A cube is a selectively bred stripe, so genetically anery stripe is still the correct term. A cube just means you have that particular pattern where the stripes come together into those square saddles. A bit like you get motley snakes, but you can then also get hurricane motleys (where the pattern goes all circular and looks like you are looking down on lots of little hurricanes) or sunspot motleys where the saddles join up so much you end up with a string of spots down the spine.
Have a peek here (but I warn you, look at the other pages on Ian's vivarium at your own risk... you'll come away wanting loads more lol!!) http://iansvivarium.com/morphs/species/elaphe_guttata/cube/?sid=42ed875ec0af12f79ac8c36b9fd376df |

Posted - 02/08/2013 : 13:47:09 Thank you! I've not had Archie referred to as an anery cube before, but as an anery stripe with hets. Is Anery Cube his proper morph name then? Looking at your sig, he does look at lot like Ember! |

My OH loves Archie now and talks to him through the glass! Archie has also decided that one of his favourite spots to sit, is on the top of my OH head....I'll try to get a pic next time.
I've been looking through the picture threads on here and I have to say you guys have some real stunners! I'm a bit of a stripe fiend, so I'm loving all the stripy babies!! .....need to get more viv's! |
