Hi everyone
I've been around for awhile reading taking note. I now have everything set up and i am picking up my first corn tomorrow it is a lovely little butter. I apologise in advance for all the silly questions I will be asking. I will try and take a quick photo and post it when I get him home.

I think it's because he's the first pet I haven't got on a crazy impulse and did a lot of reading up. It's been about 3 months since I got permission and got my set up sorted but there hasn't been many corns around for sale over here in the last few month. So I've had a lot of time to get ready and been waiting for a while.

I love the way you talk about him Jo, it's obvious how taken you are with him and how much you care . It's great that you've got such good records for him. I'm a bit OTT where keeping records are concerned . Each snake has a book with weight, what they've eaten and when, shedding dates, viv cleans, health and even when they poo ....which is probably taking it too far !

It's wonderful how they change as they grow. I always suggest that people who are looking at getting a hatchling look to see what the adult of that morph is like, because they change so much. He is a lovely little snake and will grow into a beautiful adult .

The vampire diaries i'm sad like that lol and my mates were telling me to called him Damon which I did think about but he seems far too calm to be a Damon. That made me think about calling him Alaric and it's a bit different. I think to start off with feeding I'll try him every 6 days and see how he gets on with that. The shop told me he's a good feeder,he inhaled the pinky in no time then looked for more and gave me all his records so hopefully it shouldn't be a problem. I think I will get more corns 1 day but for now I'm going to concentrate on this little 1, watch him grow and see how his colours change as he does

Alaric is a lovely name, but I understand you wanting to wait to see if it fits. So, is it after the King of the Visigoths....or Vampire Diaries? I think I can probably guess .

If he's only been fed weekly then it's not surprising he's small, but it's common practice with shops and some breeders. They know they aren't going to have them for long so only feed them what they need, but not enough to grow . Now that he's with you and moving on to fuzzies he'll get bigger a lot quicker . Are you going to try to feed him every 5/6 days instead of weekly? The first feed is always nerve-wracking and even more so in your case because its his first fuzzie, but if he's had the week to settle in hopefully he'll be hungry and it shouldn't be a problem. It is amazing what size food they can eat, although it does look bizarre the way they 'walk' their jaws over it, so be prepared for that.

It certainly sounds like he's settling in well and is a confident little thing, not hiding away when you change his water .

I'm not surprised you're already feeling the pull of wanting more....it's so hard to resist !

Hi Jo . I have had lots going on at home and have missed so many people introducing themselves I feel terrible. Hope you like it around here, I love it and would have literally gone insane without all the help. I have seen the pictures of your gorgeous corn, absolutely beautiful

I'm not completely sure of the name yet but I'm thinking of calling him Alaric but i want to see what his personality like once he's had his week of settling in. He's a cb12 just over a year old he's still small he was still only being fed one of the biggest sized pinkies once a week they were going to move him up to fuzzies on his next feed so that's the size food they sold me. I'm bit nervous about the first feed with me being a size up to what he's use to but I do think he'll be able to manage them as they are not any wider then 1 and a half times then the widest part of his body. He doesn't seem to be too shy when I change his water this morning he stuck his head out his hide and rested it on a branch to watch what I was doing. Thank you for the warning but already doubt he'll be last corn lol already thinking I might need someone to limit me or it could get a bit crazy there are so many pretty morphs

Glad you've finally come in from the cold . This forum is great, with lots of experienced owners happy to give their advice and support. You also get lots of fun and friendship .

Your snake is lovely, such beautiful colours. And you've already seen it drink ! There will be lots of jealous forum members. Name?

I'm sure you've probably already looked at these threads....but better heard twice than not at all. The best places to start are the Care Sheet and Your 1st snake. As it is a hatchling you have then Setting Up A Hatchling Corn Snake - My 101 is definitely required reading. You'll also find a lot of information on viv set-up, feeding, shedding and handling in General Keeping Information - Stickies

If you can't find what you want to know using the search option, then please don't hesitate to ask. We don't bite....much . And as Herriotfan has said, there's no such thing as a silly question.

A word of warning, this won't be your last corn....they are addictive .
