Posted - 26/02/2013 : 15:40:38 Hi people, firstly I appologise for my spelling - been told it's so bad it's good :-) I have had my corn for ~2 years now & just got a mexican black king too. Although I'm relitivly new to owning snakes I've been around them for about 6 years (some big ones too 8-12 ft). Thought I would come on here as I have a few questions & would like to share some of my pics etc with people with similar interest. So - here's Lenny (don't ask, was told she was male when I bought her haha) http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/olipowell/IMG_2806a_zps04f26809.jpg Hope to get on here from time to time. Might not be the best place to post a question but... She's not fed for 4 weeks now (breeding season coming up I know), not under-weight yet (if anything poss a little fat) and her normal self. I'm not too worried yet but when should I start? Some people have said they can go 22 weeks but that seems WAY too much? Also can they carry eggs if they haven't had any male contact? This is her second time going into this season & has never done it before? I wondered if the male king (scent, don't worry they are seperate!) has made her want to carry?
Cheers peoples! Ollie

Posted - 27/02/2013 : 09:47:54 Hi people, thanks for the welcome! I got a few more pics (sorry these were taken on the phone) of my regulars. Couldn't feel any eggs last night but what do you guys think? Is she looking over-fed?
When she was a nipper, I've got the pics from when she was 4weeks somewhere but these are the eairlist I could find. http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/olipowell/CSF/WP_000085_zps595fb4ab.jpg http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/olipowell/CSF/WP_000211_zps2d03255d.jpg http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee82/olipowell/CSF/WP_000465_zpse5dfeaa9.jpg

Posted - 26/02/2013 : 16:34:06 Hi Lou, thanks :-) like I say she seems ok but is normally a regular feeder - been on a Friday/7day feed for about 5 months and has only ever missed the odd one (normally when shedding) She was getting a bit fatty though as she was eating pretty big stuff (still within the 1.5x mid section I was told to judge by) so I wonder if it was that?...Guessing I may have some eggs to clear out soon then haha! I want to breed her but I was going to wait until next year (told it will give better results & will be better for her) so if she does lay that looks like a good sign. |

Posted - 26/02/2013 : 16:18:38 Hi and welcome. Some females produce eggs with out being with a male, 8's mum lays infertile eggs each year, the only year she didn't was last year which we wonder if it was due to her laying a fertile clutch in 2011.If it makes you feel better she isn't eating at the minuet either and hasn't fed since the beginning of January, she always has been an on/off feeder though |

Posted - 26/02/2013 : 16:12:00 Hi, cheers for the quick reply! I'm starting to think that she might lay & after reading a bit on here I will have a feel of her tonight :-/ very random! That's the weird thing though, she hasn't really dropped any weight (that I've noticed as I don't have scales....no pun intended) I will just keep an eye on her, hope to get some pic's up soon but will need to find the time. Had her sinice she was (was told) 4 weeks old (3 feeds) & as thin as a worm, she's just over 2yrs now & would say just over 3 ft & VERY active - never come across such an active snake before. Also very tollerent and friendly & seems to have taken a liking to the king's viv, not in an aggressive way just curious |

Posted - 26/02/2013 : 16:00:05 Hello and welcome! Lenny looks lovely
As fair as I'm aware, they can produce eggs without a male, but needless to say they'd be infertile. Feeding-wise, I wouldn't worry unless she starts drastically dropping weight - they can go a surprisingly long time dinnerless |
