Hi all, got my first corn snake(common) yesterday

Great forum, helped me a lot learning about corn snakes before I got mine and helped get the set up ready for him.

He went to hide away when I first put him in his new home, but when it started to get darker in my room he came out of hide and went for an adventure lol. Seems a happy little snakey :) his cool side ranges between about 21c during the night and rises to about 23/24 during the day. And the warm side is heated with a heat mat and habistat mat stat and warms up to 28.9c/29c, then when it reaches that it turns off and cools down to 27.9c/28c. Then on again. Does that sound alright? Both sides have digital exo terra thermometers. He hasn't stayed in the warm side yet, only the cool side.

Jamie :)

My cool side starts to rise to that because when the house heating goes on. I open the window to cool the room down a bit as I hate being too hot too lol. See at the moment his cool side is 22.7, never seen it above 24 though. I have placed the warm thermometer probe and stat probe together inside his faunarium under the substrate where he will be in the hide as I've already seen him digging into the substrate. Cool side probe is under substrate as well

Welcome to the forum And the addictive hobby of corn snake keeping...

Is your cool side heated somehow? 23-24 is quite warm imho, although as long as there is a gradient (which there is in your case) so that the snake can thermoregulate properly, it should be okay.

Sounds good to me. He will go to either side as it suits him :) my Rubi hides in a wrapping paper tube and has done constantly since it went in a few days ago! You'll find little quirks and habits, wish I had sooner because it would have saved me a lot of cash haha.

Welcome along :)
