Welcome to the forum.

A hatchling might be a bit quicker moving when you handle it compared to an older corn snake but a hatchling won't be able to hurt you even if it does strike. Plus you will get to see a hatchling grow up from very small which is exciting.

Sorry should read :can't do much if any harm

A little one can't do much if any. You will find it easier to keep a hatchie on kitchen roll or similar so that you can check for poo (hard to find in aspen) and easier to change while your snake is small

It will be a hatchling. I did have a look at a friends corn and it was about 2 years old, would have bought from him it but everytime I went near it, it wanted to strike as it is not used to being handled. So as not to put my little girl(12) off keeping a snake I thought it best to get a smaller one, easier to handle and have less likely to strike and bite. I might reconsider it again in a year or so once I have a little bit more experience. If wife seen it strike I would be prying her off the ceiling light fitting with a pry bar .
