Posted - 03/05/2012 : 20:20:21 Hi there,
Picked up my first Corn yesterday after reading alot of helpful advice on here previously, thanks!
I've kept Geckos for a few years now, but absolutely fell in love with this little guy/gal when I saw him/her. Home now and settling in really nicely, and I couldn't be more chuffed.
He/she was advertised as a Ghost Corn, but would really appreciate it if someone could maybe advise me on the specifics? I've been doing alot of reading on the various morphs and breeding this week, totally fascinating, but I'd be lying if I said I understood even half of it completely.
My best guess as a total beginner would be Ghost Motley/Stripe? But I don't really understand 'hets' etc.
Anyway, Hello to you all, and really looking forward to watching/learning more about this little critter as he/she grows up! :)

I'm using Aspen bedding (this site really was my go to resource to get everything prepared before I got him home, and it is what he was on in the shop). I *think* I've found the culprit though... I am using a ceramic plant pot from homebase which I have partially broken and sanded smooth, as a hide. I find them to be cheap, good looking hides that are easy to replace as they grow in size. However, I think this one might have been slightly damp from being kept outside in the rain. I'm going to bake it in the oven for a little bit tonight and let it cool before putting it back in, hopefully that should fix the problem.
Thanks Smart Bunny, I'll be sure to keep a closer eye on the humidity from now on! :) |

Posted - 04/05/2012 : 08:04:26 It is important it's not too humid for corns as they can get respiratory infections if so. What substrate are you using? Bark can be very humid if not dried out in the oven first. |

I think Flickr was having a bit of a hissy fit (no pun intended), but the photo seems to be there now. It was actually taken by my girlfriend while I was handling him in the shop before bringing him home to get settled, and I will admit I think it's put a slight 'funky' blue filter over the top. He has got a very, very small blueish hue, but is mostly light brown/white... and yes, completely white belly with no chequers. Glad I wasn't totally off-base calling him a motley.
At the moment I have him in a shoe box sized RUB, sat inside his main viv till he gets big enough. I have a thermostat and have been monitoring the hot and cool temps closely (both of which seem fine), but it does seem to be suffering quite a bit with condensation. It's by no means dripping off the lid or anything, but it does seem to get quite steamed up round the top and was wondering if this was common? I've made sure the box has good ventilation, and it doesn't seem to be affecting him much, but thought I'd ask just in case.
Thanks again, great to meet you all :) |

Posted - 03/05/2012 : 21:40:06 Hi and welcome :) Certainly looks like a motley - I assume he has a totally white belly with no chequers on it? Also would go for ghost but am by no means an expert. Lovely little snake whatever it is lol! |
