Posted - 17/03/2012 : 12:29:31 Hey guys, im relatively new to the snake keeping business, just getting my 1st snake a few weeks ago (royal python settling in great) and now i seem to be getting the bug, i would like some more :o
My main question would be, would this vivarium be suitable? http://www.vivexotic.co.uk/products_lx.html The LX24 for a 4month old or so corn, and how long would this keep it happy for? Thinking long term, might get a male and female for the future, if ya know what a mean hehe.
Comments would be greatly appreciated, thanks :) |

Posted - 17/03/2012 : 16:52:46 It's from pets at home and came with a mat, stat and a digital thermometer for £89. I cannot get the link to work (on my phone at the moment) but if you type in monkfield in the search bar on their website you will find it. |

Posted - 17/03/2012 : 15:16:58 you can get circular push on LED lights in poundland etc. Take 3 AAA batteries. I have them in a couple of my vivs (they have a sticky bit to attach them) xx
EDIT: rechargable batteries |

Posted - 17/03/2012 : 14:03:16 Yeh, i was thinking about those RUB's, but then again i would like to look at the snakeys through the glass, and have a light for them so i can see them and such, but maby they would prefer the RUB's, i dont really know, thats why im asking you guys :D |

Posted - 17/03/2012 : 13:38:23 Hi Heres a link to show you what the rubs are. You can upgrade the size when you need to and would prob work out cheaper than constantly upgrading vivs etc. You can buy cheaper versions in super markets too. I use them before the snakes are big enough for vivs. Use a solder iron or heated screw driver to melt breathing holes. The cheaper versions dont have the secure lid things rubs do, but I use heavy duty bulldog clips from staples instead.
Not everyone likes using rubs. Some people swear by them. I prefer to use them, myself. Until they are big enough for their adult viv, which I can then kit out properly for them
Its all about personal choice. Some people will say rubs arent as secure as vivs or fauns, whereas I have used vivs, faunarriums and rubs, and so far the only time I had a very brief escapee was from an actual viv. Never a rub, and the faunarium was only used for a couple of months, but in those couple of months there was no escape either.

Posted - 17/03/2012 : 13:33:29 Hey Jebus welcome over here.
we have all our younger corns in rubs for now, not to say you cant use the 2ft just make sure plenty of cover for the snake to hide away. |

Posted - 17/03/2012 : 13:20:03 Hello and welcome!
Most people tend to keep such young babies in fauns or rubs as opposed to vivs.. they are mad little escape artists! (I think it was on here that someone had a wee baby escape through the gap in the glass doors?!) Having them in smaller spaces makes monitoring them easier too; checking for poops, shed, regurges etc, and a super tiny snake make feel a little exposed in a large viv... pack it out with lots of cover though and that part shouldnt be a problem
In theory, you could happily keep a corn in a viv that size until its just over 3ft long, which would be a couple of years old at least for most! |
