Hi everyone! I got my snake today and I'm really happy with her. I got a viv starter kit so I got a heat mat, aspen, moss, some cork, a water bowl and a thermometer also.

I've set everything up, and got 2 hides for her, one in the warm end and one in the cool end. She is really tame and loves to be handled. She is also a beautiful colour. A mix or red, orange and white.

As my viv is quite high, my next mission is to make a second floor for her, with a vine or something similar to climb up!

Her name by the way is Sylar

I want to get a digital thermometer (as they are more accurate), can anyone give me some names / brands which you use and which you recommend? Thanks :)

Hi, welcome to the forum.

Have to agree with Figs about the need for a thermostat, it is without doubt an essential bit of equipment as heat mats can overheat very easily. I would also check that the thermometer you have is a digital one and not just one of the useless dial thermometers that normally come with complete starter kits.

Sylar sounds gorgeous, I'll look forward to seeing some photos of her.

Hello and welcome!

Dont forget a thermostat if you dont have one already; most starter kits dont include one for some reason, and they make the heat mats much safer!
Leaving them to settle for a few days is usually a good idea too, just to make sure they dont get too stressed

Congrats on getting her though, bet it wont stay at just 1 for long.....
