Please bear with me as I'm new to this forem stuff. I have recently bought a one year old female amel corn and I am thinking about buying a old year old male. I have read that corns don't meet sexual maturity until two or three years old. Am I still ok to keep them together or do I have to keep them apart until they are two or three. Also should I get a male charcoal or cinder to go with my female amel.
Cheers

It's only the initial setups that are costly. I've got a dozen or so snakes and the cost to keep them is still cheaper than 2 dogs and a cat. Snakes (especially kings) FTW. |

Posted - 26/10/2011 : 21:20:34 Hi there
Reading the thread on co-habiting is a good read, personally i wouldn't keep them together, at a year old you basically have horny teenagers, but the female is far to young and small to breed, could become egg bound and ultimately kill her. The usual rule for breeding a female is the 3 3's 300g, 3 years, and 3ft. They would usually only then come together for mating and then separate again |

Posted - 26/10/2011 : 21:03:18 Hello and welcome!
There is a whole thread on cohabbing; pros and cons... most people tend not to agree on it though. Animals can breed before they grow to a safe size, which can be devastating to the female; i'd advise keeping them separate until they are both big enough to breed safely, just in case
Unless your female has any hets, breeding her to a charcoal or a cinder without hets would give you all visual normals so go for whichever takes your fancy!

Unfortunately, I am unable to help with breeding and morphs as I'm new to corn snake keeping myself, but there are some very knowledgable members here so you've come to the right place. |
