Posted - 18/10/2011 : 08:10:28 Hey Im new! My names Louise and I am on the south coast in Kent. Im getting a mature cornsnake on Friday, got all my stuff ready. Really excited. Been reading your forum and got some really great ideas for my viv, thank you.
I have a cat who is 5 Fluffy (shes actually not fluffy tho) shes just a plain old tortie who hates kids... I also have two children, their like pets only they cost me more money and talk back, my son is 3 and my daughter is 8...ergo the cat that hates children...
I got a snake because a)this mature one was nice & b)im recovering from a nasty milk snake episode as a youngster and also c) I hope to scare my children with it, told my daughter it was venemous.... lolz...and that i could put her ipod in the viv when shes naughty :)
My kids dont like any animals apart from cats. My daughters already told me that the snake should live in the basement and that if it escapes shes not helping me, to which i replied "if its escaped its because you tampered with her viv" i think maybe a viv lock
anyways, good to chat...will chat again soon no doubt..

Posted - 18/10/2011 : 21:37:57 I got a Sinaloan Milksnake from yearling and at every opportunity it would bite me, another year passed in which I had hoped that with persistence, handling and care she might grow out of it but she didnt, my friend who had loads of reptiles came in and checked my setup and how i was handling her and even he said that she shouldnt have been striking like that all of the time.
It got to the point where picking her up became a daily hand dance, id put my hand to one side of her body and wait till she looked at it and then tried to pick her up with the other, either way i ended up getting bitten allot. Eventually I got some gloves because my nerves were shot with her constant snapping and by this point I knew she wasn't getting the appropriate care...and her nips were getting...bigger
My friend offered to have her and I sadly handed her over, feeling defeated... apparently shes still a snapper now but with someone more prepared for her rages...
11 Years on, my boyfriend has 2 corn snakes and Carly is very docile, after taking a few deep breaths I picked her up and she was so lovely, not a struggle at all, and i loved how she coiled herself round my calf while having a nose round the sofa...so I considered getting one and he said as long as I was properly set up I could have Carly, and I know shes a diamond snake... He also has a normal royal python and our lovechild beardie called Rocket...and dreams of many more reptiles...
Today I have been winding my cat and daughter up with frozen mice...my cat looked at it like "aww youve taken the fun out of it" and my daughter asked if microwaving would cause reanimation...lol...
If this all goes well, and the kids are enjoying as well as myself. I may get a hatchling and start from baby, i think it would be good for the kids to watch and learn.
Roll on Friday when my Carly arrives...woooo!
