Hi, I got my first corn after wanting a snake for absolutle years. I finaly managed to convience my mum that mice are no worse than meat to store in the freezer! Well I have now had Alice/Xanthe since 10th june. He has never refused a feed, but I do have a few concerns about him.
Firstly, I have never found a poo in his enclosure. I have searched a few time, but didn't find any. Also, he will let me pick him up with tongs, however as soon as I actually touch him, he acts like he is very scared and "runs" off. I held him no problem in the shop. Its like he don't like body heat. He also seems very scared of me. He comes out of his hides very often and I can view him from afar, but as soon as he sees me looking at him, he goes back into hiding. |

Thanks everyone! Am going to try the sock trick and hopefully it will work. I guess it was just wishful thinking on my part that he would be calm like all the snakes I have handled before! But thinking about it, I have never handled a Corn before, so I guess I am fairly surprised at his speed!

Welcome to the forum.
Have you tried the old sock trick to help your snake get used to your smell? You just put an old sock or some bit of cloth in your top for the day, so it gets your smell on it. Then you pop it in the snakes hide so he gets used to the smell of you and won't think of you as a threat.
Young snakes are very fast and will avoid being held until they get used to it. It's just a case of being persistant with him.

He wraps himself around the tongs whenever I put it in. He cant hurt himself in any way on them, so don't worry! I left him alone for 6 days. Took him out to feed. Then tried to start handling 3 days later. |

i really hope you arn't picking him/them up with tongs, just pick them up gently approx 1/3 of the way from the head. Have you left them time to settle in? |
