Posted - 09/06/2011 : 08:17:33 Hi, I haven't had my snake long enough to know exact costs but I am currently puting away £4 a week to cover food and substrate. My electricity bill hasn't gone up enough for me to notice either. As for initial set up costs. I got a really good adult snake starter kit for just under £130. All I had to buy extra was a second hide and the tank decorations. I didn't think the set up cost was bad at all (especialy compaired to when I set up a lizard viv several years ago, the prices have come down a lot!). Please note that if you intend to get a hatchling then you will need to buy a smaller set up first the upgrage to a larger one when the snake gets bigger. Hope this helps. x |

Posted - 09/06/2011 : 01:23:01 That also depends on the age of the corn as well. Assuming an adult, feeding on 2 large mice every 10 days. 2x£1 x3 = £6 a month for food. Electricity rates vary, but assuming 11p per KWH and running an on/off stat would probably average about 30p per week (at the utmost maximum I'd guess) £0.30 X 4 = £1.20 Now assuming you weren't including the setup costs in that, it works out at about £7.20 a month. However there are WAY to many variables to put a monthly cost on it. Variables can include: Type of housing, size of housing, size of heat mat, location of housing, substrate, the average temps in your home......... The list goes on.
That price is still not even taking into account the costs to get the correct equipment, as the initial costs are what some people deem as high for a snake, a stat for example will cost an average of about 20 quid. Some people stupidly do without them, this is not only a hazard to the snake but costs a lot more in electricity and is a fire risk so could end up costing you a LOT more. |
