Hi everyone
I dont own a snake at present but im joining in the hope of gaining information other than just simply reading "how to" type pages. A bit of insight into the realities of snake owning are really what Im after.
At present I have a cat and a whites tree frog, all much loved pets. My daughter has been on and on and on (im sure you can imagine)about getting a snake for some time but ive held off as I wanted to be sure that she was both old enough and capable of owning a snake. Im fully aware that I will likely end up taking over cleaning/feeding/handling duties depending on how she takes to pet ownership, so I also need to have a realistic idea of what to expect should i go ahead.
Ive gone on a bit  so I will stop for now... just wanted to say hi before i launch into question asking!

Hi and welcome. Congrats on deciding to get a corn snake,you won't regret it and your daughter will be over the moon.
As said above though,they are VERY addictive. I got Loki for my kids in August and have somehow managed to acquire 4 more snakes since! 
Hope you find your freecycle bargain,its always worth a look.  |

freecycle is good we picked up a 3ft viv through our local freecycle group recently |

I spent a few hours last night reading on here and looking at various youtube videos on corn snakes etc... loads of info!
I think what i really need to do is pop to my pet shop and actually ask to hold a snake... something i have never done before and none of my friends have anything more exotic than cats and dogs!
I remember last time i went in and a snake had soemhow managed to find a way to squeeze in between the panes of glass and was halfway out. I did a fair impression of a rain dance to get the owners attention...lol!
was the same with the frog when i first got her and now im quite happy handling both her and her live food, so im guessing i will be fine!
theres so many colour variations out there too....really pretty! I can see why people get so many when there is so much choice! and I was also interested to hear about RUB's. A lot cheaper initial set up than a vivarium.... although i have posted on my local freecycle to see if anyone is getting shot of one that i could make use of.

Hi and welcome, you are going through what I went through with my son, he too wanted a snake so like you I went on the info trail and checked out if it would be suitable. I must say that not only is he hooked but our whole family they are really lovely pets and soo interesting too sure you will not look back  |

I'll second that. I got my first corn a couple of weeks ago and already gearing up for number 2. Maybe even numbers 2 and 3...
