heya and welcome
there's no hard and fast rules but we do recommend what's considered 'best practice' - beneficial for you and your snake http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4133

hi nellie82 and welcome to the forum.

have a read through the caresheet is a good place to start http://www.thecornsnake.co.uk/corn_snake_care_sheet.htm as for handling i would leave handling your snake for a week just to let it settle in only changing the water and spot cleaning if required.
