Posted - 06/12/2010 : 22:27:23 Hi everyone. I'm new to snake ownership and am really learning a lot from this forum. I bought a 4-foot corn snake from a private party who kept the snake's living area much cooler than recommended. He also told me the snake will only eat once every couple of months even when given additional opportunities....in stark contrast to numerous other sources who say feeding once every week or two is normal. Could the cooler temp lead to a lower metabolism? Will providing a more comfortable living environment most likely lead to a hungrier snake? Right now my snake is content to hide all day and has made no attempt to move to the warmer side at all, but appears quite healthy. I figured I would let him adjust to his new environment and then try feeding him later in the month.... Thanks for any advice, and I REALLY appreciate the forum. Ethan |

Posted - 07/12/2010 : 09:37:23 Hi Welcome to the forum. Glad you 'rescued' the snake! Take the feeding slowly, gradually increase the feeding routine, you don't want to overload the snake. It needs time to get used to more regular feeds. |

Low temperatures would definitely make the snake eat less/digest slower. With a proper temperature gradient he should eat more (obvously only if you offer him more) |
